Opening Song Help Us, O Lord, for Now We Enter (CW #70) 3

We Confess Our Sins and Hear God s Promise of Forgiveness 1 (please stand) P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. P: Brothers and sisters, we have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy: C: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. P: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will. C: Amen. P: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord. 1 1 John 1:9 says, If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us all our sins. So the Pastor assures our believing hearts of God s promise forgiveness of sins. 4

Song of Praise Oh, Taste and See Prayer of the Day P: Let us pray: Lord God, by the leading of a star you once made known to the nations your one and only Son. Guide us, also, who know him now by faith, to come at last to the perfect joy of your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. : Amen. (be seated) 5

First Lesson Jeremiah 31:31-34 31 The days are coming, declares the L, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, declares the L. 33 This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time, declares the L. I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, Know the L, because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the L. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. 6

Psalm of the Day Psalm 72 Endow the King with your justice, O God,* the royal Son with your righteousness. He will defend the afflicted among the people* and save the children of the needy. He will endure as long as the sun,* as long as the moon, through all generations. He will be like rain falling on a mown field,* like showers watering the earth. Refrain All kings will bow down to him,* and all nations will serve him. All nations will be blessed through him,* and they will call him blessed. Praise be to the L God, who alone does marvelous deeds.* May the whole earth be filled with his glory. Glory be to the Father and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,* is now, and will be forever. Amen. Refrain 7

Second Lesson Romans 5:1-11 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. After the children's lesson, a kid s area is available. Meet the workers in back, and they will take the kids to the playroom. You can pick them up at any time. 8

Song of the Day Jesus Shall Reign Where er the Sun (CW #84) 9

The Message A FRESH Perspective Luke 5:27-32 27 Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. Reasons Tax Collectors were Considered Far from God: 1. 2. 3. The Pharisaical Perspective on Saving Levi s Soul: Jesus Approach: me, Jesus said to him. 28.Levi got up, left everything and followed him. 29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? 10

31 Jesus answered them, It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Important Perspective Changes: A Savior for the Righteous? 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:5 8) A Savior who Waits to be Sought? God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:4) A Savior who Dwells with the Elite? 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through him! (Romans 5:9) What Now!?! 11

We Confess Our Faith in God (please stand) The Apostles Creed 2 (be seated) I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. This offering goes to support the ministry done here at Gethsemane. Please pass in your Connection Cards. Give online @ GatherToTheGarden.com/give Connect online @ GatherToTheGarden.com/connect 2 As we speak these words, we join with Christians throughout the centuries who have confessed the truths taught in Scripture with these words. 12

New Member Welcome Molly Milani Karl & Barb Meyers (please stand) Prayer of the Church Spoken by the Pastor The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. 13

P: Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
