Council Honors Knights with Families of the Month Awards for January Family of the Month was awarded by Family Service Director Chair, Greg Smith (L). Council Sponsors Attendance of Knights at March for Life in D.C.* Hundreds of thousands of pro-life advocates participated in the March for Life on January 27 in Washington D. C. Council 560 was represented by Dan and Anne Scheidler and John and Kathleen Kindt. The Indiana Knights of Columbus had the trip very organized with the bus trip and hotel accommodations provided. About 60 Hoosiers came with the knights. The knights in attendance were from all over the country. One of the highlights of the day was hearing Vice-President Pence and other pro-life leaders speak at the rally before the march. Some excerpts from Pence s speech follow below. Everyone involved in the march was polite, enthusiastic, hopeful and God-focused. Quite noticeable in the crowd was the large number of young people from high schools, colleges and church groups. John Kindt noted that It was amazing to witness the million or so people marching for the rights of the unborn and all life. Our presence was a living statement that even though we may never know about any of the lives we saved, we were part of the effort. Dan and John thank Council 560 for sponsoring their trip and noted that it was a pilgrimage we will always remember. *Edited in part with article reported by John Kindt for the newsletter. Some remarks by Vice President Mike Pence at the Right-to-Life March: Life is winning in America Pence told the crowd. He noted that the Declaration of Independence guarantees life, liberty and pursuit of happiness and that the decision to turn away from these ideals with Roe vs Wade in 1973 legalizing abortion was a mistake. Further, he said that he was representing the President at the March for Life and that he hoped that a new Supreme Court Justice would uphold the God-given liberties given in the Constitution. It was noted that anti-abortion forces had been ignored for too long. In summary, it was a message of hope for Right to Life Advocates.
Assembly Valentine Dinner Held A delightful time was had by all Assembly 243 members, their wives, and guests at the February 14 th Valentines Day Dinner. Member knights were in dress attire for the event. There were over 50 in attendance and all the ladies received a rose. Val Alexander and her crew served up a great roast pork dinner with all the trimmings after Fr. Dave Hellmann offered grace. A special thanks is extended Faithful Navigator, Joe McPherson who was responsible for the evening along with all knights who were involved and helped. Photographs of the evening reveal the festive atmosphere of the evening: Val Alexander (L) and her assistants catered a fine dinner for all. Faithful Navigator Joe McPherson was in charge of the evening. Thanks Joe! Fr. Dave Hellman prayed the Grace. Grand Knight, Kevin Durbin and wife Susan enjoyed the evening. A special ladies table included (L to R): Julie Zvokel, Clara Persinger, Mary Thise, and Thelma Eulitt.

Chili Cook-Off Declared a Success There were many good chili booths, many kinds of chili to sample, and lots of fun as the room of competitors set up and dished out samples of chili at the Family Center on February 11th. Mike and Carol Clohessy, who headed up the event, were there to oversee the festivities and competition. It was a success because of the hard work of many people but primarily because funds were raised to support the Haiti Library Foundation work for the Haitian people. Space will not permit more photos but here are two for your review: Co-chairs Mike and Carole Clohessy. Knights Jim Cheslik (L) and Gary Demaree s booth February Sack Lunches for Harvest Soup Kitchen A team of seven Council 560 knights gathered at the Family Center on February 22nd to make sack lunches for the needy of Muncie.
