Here is more information about the book and about what they will be talking about that night: Page 8 "By His Mercy" is a collection of testimonies of how 11 young, ordinary, local, Christians have seen God's extraordinary mercy. Each story is very different stories of miracles, surviving a plane crash, losing a loved one, discerning a vocation. All of them are very powerful and each of them shows how we have seen God s mercy in our lives. We hope that this book will inspire people to look into their own lives and notice how God has worked and showed them His mercy. If you are interested in purchasing the book go to www.lulu.com and search for Tricia Walz. JANUARY 2019 Page 10 Chalking the Door on Epiphany, January 6 The day of Epiphany, January 6, is a time to gather with family and friends at the main entrances to homes, apartments, rooms, etc. and ask God s blessing on dwellings and on all who live and visit there. Leadership may be shared with a change of voice at each Leader s part (L). L: Peace be to this house and to all who enter. L: A reading from Proverbs 24:3-4: By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. L: Let us pray: Gracious God, as a shining star once guided the magi to the birthplace of the infant Jesus, so enable those who dwell here to be your light in the world; through Jesus Christ we pray. ALL: Amen. Using chalk (hence, Chalking the Door ), people are invited to inscribe the lintel of the home (the horizontal frame above the door) with the inscription shown below, The letter C M B come from the traditional (9th century) names for the three kings Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. Some also suggest Christus Mansionem Benedicat which means May Christ bless this dwelling! Each person is given a turn to make one or more of the marks: 20 + C + M + B + 19 L: A reading from Isaiah 32:17-18: The effect of righteousness is peace and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwelling, and quiet places. L: Let us pray: Sovereign God, we pray that you will bless this home and all who live here with your gracious presence, that your love may be our inspiration, your wisdom our guide, your truth our light, and your peace our benediction; through Jesus Christ we pray. ALL: Amen. L: Lord, remember your children and teach us to pray: ALL: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. L: May the Lord watch over our going out and our coming in, from this time forth and forevermore. ALL: Amen.
