October 21, 2018 SUNDAY MESSENGER 29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME TOO MUCH INFORMATION! There is a common expression: "Too much information!" We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don't want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple question, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he often does, Jesus answers a question with a question; today it's about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John's outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been "too much information" for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this information, though it can sometimes seem "too much" for us, is essential for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Mark today, we learn this information. It is in suffering, in weakness, in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. It is the information we need to find our place and come to be honored in the reign of God. BAPTIZED Lucia Gina Ciaccia (Matthew John Fraizer & Gina Terese Ciaccia) May God's abundant blessing be always with our newly baptized, her parents and sponsors. OCTOBER - MONTH OF MARY The month of October is dedicated to Blessed Virgin Mary. She is leading us closer to her Jesus. During this month, let us we pray rosary together for our parish community before Sunday Masses. Join us! OCTOBER MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT For the 4 Sundays in October, every Catholic parish is required to take a count of the number of people attending each Mass. This is an important source of information when the Archdiocese plans and makes decisions about the future. SECOND COLLECTION THIS SUNDAY This Sunday, October 21, we have a second collection for the World Mission Sunday. Let us help the Church s missionary work around the world in offering practical help and the experience of God s merciful, compassionate presence. THANK YOU & GOD BLESS YOU Dear parishioners and friends of Santa Lucia! I am leaving Chicago after I have been serving at St. Jerome as an associate for almost 6 years, and as an administrator at Santa Lucia for almost 3 years. By decision of Croatian Franciscans Custody, I will go to serve at the Queen of Peace Croatian Parish in Norval, ON, Canada. I am grateful that you welcomed me with an open heart into Santa Lucia parish community almost 3 years ago. We went together through various joyful and sad moments, celebrations and funerals. Now, I want to encourage you to look at the future with faith in God. Fr. Ivica and Fr. Antonio will continue to minister at Santa Lucia. Let us keep each other in prayers. I assure you that I will keep you in my prayers. God bless you all. Fr. Stipe Renić, OFM FAREWELL TO FR. STIPE This Sunday, October 21, there will be a farewell to Fr. Stipe Renić, OFM. Fr. Let us express our well wishes to Margie.
