THE POWER OF FAITH 30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SNAGA VJERE 30 NEDJELJA KROZ GODINU Whenever He met people, Jesus wanted to meet their needs. Although these needs were different, He would always offer to heal the very part of man that needs God's healing presence. But Jesus never did it in a harsh way or with force. He always respected human freedom, shattered in the deep essence of every man and woman. And when he would make a miracle happen in a person's life, he always kept in mind that a person has to have enough faith to accept the miracle that he is about to do in their life. He did it in that way because he knew that only the individual that can accept the reality that He is the ruler over life and death can freely accept the miracle that he performs. Jesus knew very well what would happen to a person who is not ready to accept something that is out of their control. This is how our faith became the only criteria by which God can enter our lives and transform them. And ever since, my faith, followed my my good works, has been the criteria of my salvation or my failure. What if I leave this world today? Would I also hear these words of Jesus: Go your way! Your faith HAS SAVED you! Uvijek kada bi susretao ljude, Isus je želio izai u susret njihovim potrebama. Iako su te potrebe znale biti razliite, On bi uvijek ponudio da svojim blagoslovom dotakne baš onaj dio ovjeka koji je potreban Božjega dodira. Ali Isus to nikada nije inio grubo ili na silu. Uvijek i do kraja poštivao je ljudsku slobodu, utkanu u duboku bit svakoga ovjeka. I kada bi inio udo u životu jedne osobe, uvijek bi pazio na to da osoba ima dovoljno vjere te mogne prihvatiti udo koje Isus u njezinu životu ini. Postupao je tako jer je znao da samo osoba koja može srcem prihvatiti da je On vladar nad životom i smru, može ispravno prihvatiti i udo koje joj Isus ini. Dobro je Isus znao što se može dogoditi osobi koja nije spremna u srcu prihvatiti da joj se dogaa nešto, makar bilo i dobro, što je izvan njezine moi upravljanja. I postade naša vjera tako jedinim kriterijem prema kojemu Bog može slobodno ui u naše živote i preobraziti ih. I sve otada moja je vjera, koju slijede moja dobra djela, kriterij mojega spasenja, ili moje propasti. Što da danas poem Bogu na raun? Da li bih i ja uo ove Isusove rijei: Vjera te tvoja SPASILA! Last year, after being in silence since the day when he went to retirement, Pope Benedict XVI gave an interview to the German journalist Peter Seewald. The interview was published as a book with the title Last testament. One of the things that a journalist asked Pope Benedict about is the faith in eternal life. Seewald was curious about Pope s expectations and how he imagines the life after death. I wasn t expecting the answer that Pope gave. Pope Benedict is one of my favorite theologian and favorite author and I was expecting that his answer will be a synthesis of the Church teaching on eternal life. I assumed that it is perfectly normal for a Pope who has been always seen as a theology professor. But his answer was different. Instead of talking about the great dogmas, he simply answered that, after he s gone, he hopes to see his parents, his brothers and sisters, and his friends. What a great testimony of faith! Indeed: If you don't change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.
OCTOBER - MONTH OF MARY The month of October is dedicated to Mary, Our Heavenly Mother. It is a month when we pray a rosary, as a family and parish community. During October we will pray rosary before Sunday Masses. OCTOBER MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT For the 4 Sundays in October, Catholic parishes are taking count of the number of people attending Masses. This is an important source of information when the Archdiocese plans and makes decisions about the future. ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS DAY Please join us Thursday, November 1, at 7 pm for a mass and a prayer service to honor the deceased members of our parish, including those who have passed away in the last year. On Friday, November 2, we will be visiting the cemeteries. Please let us know if you would like us to stop at the grave of your loved one and pray with you. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We started with Religious Education classes, Sundays at 9:30 am. It is not too late to enroll your child. The registration is open until Sunday, November 4. BABY BOTTLE PROJECT We participate in the Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. CROATIAN WOMAN FASHION SHOW Croatian Woman Society is holding their annual Luncheon and Fashion Show this Sunday, October 28 at Chateau Ritz Banquet Hall (9100 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles, IL). Doors open at 12:30 and luncheon begins at 1:30 p.m. The proceeds from this fashion show will go to support families in need both here in the United States and in Croatia. MARTINJE AND WINE TASTING Croatian folklore group Baština is hosting Martinje celebration on Saturday, November 10, in our Big Hall. This event includes wine tasting, buffet dinner and entertainment. All are welcome. Bring a bottle of your own home made wine for tasting. PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS If you would like to present the gifts to the altar at any Mass, please, see one of our ushers before the Mass. It would be beautiful if we would have different families at each Mass, or to have you if a Mass is being celebrated for your intention. RCIA CLASSES BEGIN SOON RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is a program for adults who were never baptized, baptized and formed in another faith tradition, or baptized Catholics who didn t receive the other sacraments of initiation (Confirmation, Eucharist), and now would like to explore the possibility of fully entering the Catholic Church. For more info, get in touch with our priests. ST. JEROME CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PROUD OF OUR PAST - BUILDING FOR OUR FUTURE This parish community has been in existence for 106 years. For more than a century the parish has gathered countless souls and graced them with the sacred sacraments. Likewise, throughout the various times and decades, the parish has always been renewed, primarily by the power of the Holy Spirit. It also renewed its needed spaces. Our first church was bought in 1912, but by 1922 it became small and a new church, school and hall were bought. That same year, St. Jerome Catholic School opened its doors. In the later years the church premises were renovated, new parking lots were purchased, a new convent for sisters was built, a new school building, etc. Now, the community enters new time with new needs. Many of you have already donated or promised to donate for our campaign. We need all of you to contribute, according to your abilities, of course. Without everyone s participation we will not be able to continue and finish with the construction of the new building. Thank you in advance for every gift and every expression of love.
