PREVENT INJURIES FROM TOYS Toys may be meant for fun and play, but toys in the wrong little hands can lead to serious injury. The Lucile Packard Children s Hospital in Palo Alto, California, offers these guidelines to help parents (and grandparents) choose safe toys. Check the packaging for the appropriate age range for the toy, and make sure it applies to your child. Allow your child to play with toys only in a safe area for instance, away from stairs. Participate in your child s play, to supervise and help keep the child safe. Keep toys designed for older children away from younger ones. Heed warnings about toys meant for children younger than 3, to avoid choking hazards. Inspect your child s toys for any damage that could injure your child. Be aware of any toy recalls. (Adapted from MedlinePlus1/18/10) CUDDLIES FOR KIDS PROGRAM Boy Scout Troop 29, led by Jeff Ihrke, is collecting new stuffed animals for the Cuddlies for Kids program. The Cuddlies for Kids program collects stuffed toys for Olmsted County s first responders (police, fire, ambulance) to give to young children who are in traumatic situations (auto accidents, domestic disputes, etc.). We are told that the first responders go through 2-3000 stuffed animals a year. The troop will be collecting through the end of March, at which time all of the toys will be taken to the collection point at the government center. For more information, please visit this link: http:// cuddliesforkids.com/ Cuddlies_For_Kids/ Welcome.html or contact Jeff at 288-0259.
