WORSHIP NOTES Welcome everyone to worship at Bethany Lutheran Church! It is our hope that you experience the love of Christ this morning and His presence during our worship service. If you are visiting today, please sign the guest book in the narthex. Everyone please sign the fellowship pad in your pew. The pads have a space for our record of communion. Please be sure to mark this if you partake in Holy Communion. Thank you for completing this information. Please note, assistive hearing devices and large print bulletins are available if needed ask an usher. All Saints Sunday celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who make up the body of Christ. At Bethany, we celebrate the newly baptized and we remember all of the faithful departed, especially those most dear to us who have died. Our bulletin today includes an insert Blest Are They with a place to write the names of recently ascended saints that you are thinking of today. You are invited to come forward during the Hymn of the Day and place it on the memory board at the front of the church. Today s readings are filled with rich images of the eternal life promised to all the saints. The holy meal is a foretaste of that great and promised feast where death or pain will be no more. Even in the midst of loss and grief God wipes away the tears from our eyes and makes all things new. The liturgical color for All Saint s Sunday is white. White symbolizes purity, holiness, respect and reverence. The images of a baptismal gown, funeral pall, chalice pall (covering), etc. reflect this symbolism. Today s altar flowers today are given by friends at Bethany in appreciation of and in celebration of Pastor Jen s first anniversary at Bethany. The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ Ephesians 4:11-12 Our 2018 stewardship drive, God s Light Shines through Bethany, culminates today with our pledge cards offerings. Thank you everyone for your participation in this year s drive. A special thank you goes out to Mike Palm and a warm welcome to Rod Shedenhelm and Tom Rutt who are playing brass in worship today Many thanks to our worship volunteers helping with services today: 8:30: Greeters: Bruce & Judy Iverson; Reader: Francis Hiemstra; Acolytes: Autumn Erdman, Mallory Graves; Communion servers: Donna Jones, Denise Tolzmann, Val Van Ampting; Ushers: Gary Halverson, Francis Hiemstra, Bruce Klenken; Recorder: Bill Hemme; Projector: Mary Ann Quail; 11:00: Greeters: Bruce & Judy Iverson; Reader: Teresa Martindale; Acolyte: Mallory Klemme; Communion server: Teresa Martindale; Projector: Susan Rohan;

BLANKETED IN FAITH Bethany s Faith-in-Action team invites you to help warm the heart of a child in the foster care system through the support of their year-end outreach project Blanketed in Faith (which is also the November Loving Spencer monthly project). How can you help? Purchase fleece, bring it to church throughout November and leave in the specially designated collection basket at the Welcome Center. A blanket-tying social will be held in December and blankets will be given to kids in foster care through Lutheran Services in Iowa. ST. LUKE ROUND UP Bethany is on Round-Up duty at St. Luke Home on Sunday, November 26. Three - four volunteers are needed to help get residents to the chapel for Sunday worship. If you would like to share a poinsettia in memory or honor of a loved one, please look over the order form located at the Welcome Center. They would like our pre-booked order by November 17, so please sign up early. Thank you! HELP FIGHT HUNGER In the spirit of Thanksgiving throughout the year, Bethany works to help combat hunger. We have three continuous local mission projects: Room at the Table Milk at Johnson Elementary, and holiday meals and meals for families in crisis at all of the Spencer Schools; Monthly food drives for the Upper Des Moines community food pantry; and through The Gathering our free community meal. And we reach out globally through ELCA World Hunger. We would like to thank all of you who so generously support these efforts throughout the year and would encourage you to consider making a donation toward any of these missions. A NOTE OF THANKS THANK-YOU to everyone who set up a Treat Station at the Bethany Sweet Stop on Halloween Night. It was such a FUN evening, sharing the Light and Love of Jesus with the children and families in our community. It would not have been possible without all of your enthusiasm, decorations, candy, and love for our community and church. THANK-YOU for putting your Faith in Action! Jamie Blume, Faith in Action Chairperson
