However, there are other options for you to remember your deceased loved ones through a Mass intention. Many retired priests in our diocese, as well as priests in mission areas, would be happy to pray for your intention at Masses they celebrate. You may contact the parish office to make these arrangements. The offering/stipend for a Mass is $10. THE COMPASS DIOCESAN NEWSPAPER Bishop Ricken extends his deepest gratitude for the Cathedral and St. John Parishes' support of The Compass newspaper. It helps us create communities of discipleship and furthers the mission and ministry of the Catholic Church. The Compass may be the only source of Catholic news some families receive. Our award-winning diocesan newspaper is one of the best ways for the Bishop to reach the people of our diocese. If you do not already subscribe to The Compass, would you consider doing so? If you would like to preview an issue, you can pick up a copy at the greeters desk at the Cathedral or in the back of church at St. John's. 131 S. FROM FR. JOE Merry Christmas everyone! Let's remember the season lasts till January 13th this year, that is till the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Let's keep the joy and peace alive in our hearts the whole of the season. Keep those Christmas decorations and trees up. It always breaks my heart to see trees laying in the streets on December 26th! Whether conscious of it or not, we all look for something special this time of the year. If it didn't seem to happen yet, keep your eyes and hearts open! Ask for whatever you want. As the prophet Isaiah told King Ahaz, "Ask for a sign from the LORD, your God, let it be deep as the nether world, or high as the sky!" This is a season of hope. We celebrate that "God is with us." Not only is he with us, we look forward to the day he will be Emmanuel in the fullest sense of the world, when his kingdom will come. In the meanwhile, let us rejoice that our God has chosen to be so close to us. May our hearts always be open to the joy and peace, the salvation, which he wishes to bestow upon us. Merry Christmas! In Christ, Fr. Joe LIVE-STREAM! Please remember that Livestream is available on mornings at 9 am (Central Time Zone) to those who are not able to join us for Mass. Visit our website at: www.sfxcathedralgb.com click on Live-Stream icon See letter from someone who joins us for Mass. Dear friends, A big Thank You for making your 9 a.m. Mass available to us through Relevant Radio and now via live-streaming. Though I live across the street from my parish church in Chicago, I'm not physically able at 89 to attend. I've felt a sense of community with your parishioners even in the radio Mass, but now visibly on my computer I almost feel like I'm there with you in your beautiful cathedral. If I'm not careful you'll be sending me a box of envelopes! Well, I do donate to Relevant Radio :) It was so good today to listen to Bishop Ricken -- a real teaching bishop. Thank you for gracing my s, and please have a Merry Christmas. ~Dolores USHER MEETING! All ushers are requested to attend an usher meeting the weekend of January 19th & 20th immediately following Mass.
