G.D. GOENKA PUBLIC SCHOOL, SARITA VIHAR GOENKAN literazzi: THE FESTIVAL OF LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE THEME: Goenkan Literazzi: The Festival of Language and Literature REPORT: Inter School Competition DATE: Tuesday, 23 August, 2016 EVENT REPORT It s only words, and words are all I have. The Bee Gees crooned this in the 1960s, and how soulful was that appeal. What would be the world without words, what would be the world without language, and without literature, which weaves words into such an exquisite web, arranging the chaos in our heads into magnificent readable patterns. It is with this spirit that G. D. Goenka Public School, Sarita Vihar, hosted its first inter-school literary event Goenkan Literazzi: The Festival of Language and Literature on Tuesday, August, 23, 2016. About 150 students from fifteen schools of Delhi-NCR participated in the event, making the competitions lively and stimulating. It was a splendid opportunity for students to play with words, to read, write, act, speak, and listen to be creative in all domains which engage language, combining both intellect and imagination. It was made more illustrious with the presence of judges such as Mr. Mohan Sahay (previously, political commentator and parliamentary correspondent, The Statesmen) Mr. Sanjiv Chopra (theatre and film actor and film producer), Mrs. Renu Chopra (film and theatre actor, and director, Dramatech Group), Ms. Usha Pathania (educationist), amongst others, who were delighted by the written and oratory skills of the students. The event comprised of five competitions conducted under two categories: Category 1- Classes III-V and Category 2- Classes VI-VIII. The competitions included: Poesy Slam (poetry writing and recitation) and Spin a Yarn (short story writing using a prompt) for category 1; Report It (newspaper making) and Shakespeare s Sermon (presentation of monologues from Shakespeare s plays) for category 2; and Unveil the Script (enactment) for both categories (1 and 2).

The program commenced with the welcome song and dance, lending a grand opening to the event. School Principal Mrs. Seema Sahay s inaugural address welcomed the participants and set them at ease as they then proceeded to their respective venues. Poesy Slam was held in the Western Music Room with judges Ms. Pushpanjana Karmakar and Ms. Poulomi Sengupta, both published poets in their own right. For Report It, participants first occupied the Computer Lab to gather their raw material and then shifted to the Yoga Room, where judges Ms. Rose Merin and Ms. Mrinalini. The monologues of Shakespeare s Sermon were performed in the Activity Room, where judges honourable Mrs. Renu Chopra and Mrs. Ranjana Joshi brought an inspired aura. Spin a Yarn took place in the Indian Music Room, with respected judges Mr. Mohan Sahay and Mr. Vivek Mehra inspiring the young story-tellers to think out of the box. Unveil the Script for category 1 was held in the Concept Room where judges Ms. Sumana Chopra and Ms. Deepa VK applauded for the young actors as they performed on the theme Actions Speak Louder than Words ; while the same competition for category too was held in the Auditorium where esteemed judges Mr. Sanjiv Chopra and Mrs. Usha Pathania were wowed by performances on the theme Don t Judge a Book by its Cover. The competitions were held side by side at all the venues, and all students, teachers, and judges gathered in the auditorium to catch the tail end of the dramatic performances. The judges also conceded to speak to the audience and shared their observations of students performances and lauded them. Mrs. Shalini Jain, middle school coordinator, then offered the vote of thanks and announced the muchawaited results. All participants were given out participation certificates. The event concluded with the overall winners, emerging to be Manav Rachna International School, Faridabad, being conferred with a magnificent rolling trophy, and the competition winners being conferred with their shields. The participants cheering for their teams filled the auditorium with the sound of loud applause. The event was a huge success and garnered the praise of all judges, participants, and teacher-incharges.
