PAGE 3 SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FROM THE PASTOR S DESK My dear Brothers and Sisters, It is unfortunate, to say the least, to see the headline from last week s Sun Messenger. It gave the wrong message to the community. As I had mentioned at all of the Masses on Sunday, the reason for moving from the Festival to a Spring Gala was strictly internal. After having had discussions with representatives of the City of South Euclid, our Parish Pastoral Council, our Parish Finance Council, and representatives of the Festival Committee, it was decided that we needed to move in a different direction. It has been increasingly more difficult to obtain the volunteers necessary to put on such an event and, as a major fund raising event, it has been less and less successful. We needed to try something else for the good of our parish. I am very thankful for everyone who has worked so hard over the past 38 years of the Festival s history. I am also very thankful for the support of members of the wider community who came to our Festival each year. Sacred Heart of Jesus is a vital part of our larger community. We look forward to working together, for many years to come, for the greater good of South Euclid, Lyndhurst, Cleveland Heights, and the entire Hillcrest area. I invite members of the community to become part of the new initiative by sponsoring a table at the Gala and/or providing prizes for the auction. For more information, please contact our Director of Advancement, Kim Berlin at kberlin@sacredheartofjesusacademy.org or 216.381.0363 x 40. May God s blessings be yours this Lent. Father Ireland, Pastor FROM THE PASTOR S QUESTION BOX Did you know that every Friday during Lent there is a special program here at the Parish? Beginning at 7:00 p.m. there will be the Stations of the Cross followed by a Spiritual Reflection and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. As a special treat, on Friday, March 6, our speaker will be Canon Matthew Talarico, of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. He will reflect on the Extraordinary Form of the Mass and give us a deeper appreciation of this beautiful and ancient Liturgy of the Church. Please be sure to visit this spot in coming weeks for the latest Spring Gala news! We are looking for donations for silent auction prizes. Do you own a business that provides a service? Do you have a store that could provide a prize? Does your place of work have anything that could be donated? Perhaps some of these might be tickets to events, a loge, or good seats for a sporting event! GALA FACTS: Delicious food, raffles, dancing and friendship Date: April 10,2014 Time: 7 o clock to midnight Place: Acacia Reservation, across from Beachwood Place Family-style dinner catered by Dino s Catering Beer, wine and soft drinks are included. A Greeters Apostolate is being formed, and you are invited to be a member. If you consider yourself outgoing, friendly and happy to be at Church you are an ideal candidate. Your only duty will be to extend a warm welcome to those coming to Mass. Of course, all current Ushers are already counted as members. Please come to Knight s Hall (Church Hall) after the 5 p.m. Mass (at 6 o clock) on Sunday, March 1, to hear more about this new Apostolate. ENTHRONEMENT OF THE SACRED HEART... If your family would like an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus enthroned in your home, please call Father Ireland at the Parish Office (216.382.7601) to arrange for him to come to your home and lead this beautiful devotion. Let us place ourselves under the watchful eye of Our Blessed Mother Mary, who will teach us to Love with the Heart of Jesus. SPONSOR CERTIFICATE... A sponsor certificate is a document issued by the home parish of a person who has been asked to be a spiritual companion for a child or adult seeking to be baptized or confirmed in the Catholic Church. It provides the parish of the person to be baptized or confirmed evidence that he or she is eligible to be a sponsor. All requests for sponsor certificates must be directed to a priest. Individuals must be registered and practicing members of this parish, at least 16 years of age, and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. If married, the marriage must have been accepted by the Catholic Church. You are invited to join other Christians for 40 days for Life (from February 18 to March 29). This is a time of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You are also invited to stand and peacefully pray during a 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside Preterm at 12000 Shaker Blvd, Cleveland. Please help spread the word about this important commuinity outreach.
