February 2013 T he Chronicle 1 March 2018 Who We Are Our Mission Connecting people to Christ Equipping them for life! Our Affiliation Crosspoint is part of Converge PacWest, the Northwest District of Converge Worldwide. Converge s focus is to Connect, Ignite, and Transform: Connecting God s people around God s purposes, that He might ignite movements of reproduction for the purpose of transforming lives and communities with Christ s love and truth. Mike is back! Do you know where you fit? From Pastor Mike We re partway through our series called In Search of Church right now and we re discovering how vital this thing called church is to God s plan. In fact, it IS God s plan. This is the way God has chosen to bring His hope and love and gospel to the world today: through the church. This is plan A, and there s no plan B. Somehow, in His wisdom, God chose to make the church His hands and feet on earth. How does God do things in our world? It s through His church. That makes it vital for us to figure this whole church thing out! The exciting thing we re discovering as we re searching for a biblical idea of church is this: God has created the church as a means through which a diverse group of people, who come from different backgrounds and perspectives and who have been equipped with different gifts, can be involved in a variety of ways to cause one thing: God to be glorified as more and more people know Him, love Him, and serve Him. And that doesn t happen without YOU!. So how about for you? Do you know where you fit at church? Do you know your role? Do you know why you come? Do you know what God has for you? 1

John Behle, Interim Director of Student and Children Ministries Music Notes I recently began reading through the book of Revelation, where the apostle John recounts his encounter with the Son of God, Jesus. After musing on the statement Blessed (happy) is the one who reads aloud and who hear the words of the prophecy and observes the things written in it (this book), I was struck with John s response to seeing Jesus. He said, And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person I don t know about you, but I don t react that way to personal encounters at least not very often. Years ago, on a music trip with my concert band at RVC, one of the smaller 7 th grade boys was in an elevator at the hotel when all of a sudden several members of the Duke basketball team joined him to head up to their rooms. He was terrified. When the doors opened to his floor he sprinted to his room for safety from those giants he had just encountered. If you read the imagery of Jesus that is painted by John in the verses above, perhaps you ll better understand his reaction. From time to time we sing songs that speak of bowing or falling down before the Lord, but how often do we actually sense the need to do so? Perhaps our imagery and understanding of just who it is we have encountered needs to be more specific and /or appropriate. I would not suggest we continually be terrified of Him, but perhaps we need a more complete picture of the God that loves us so dearly. He is also a holy and jealous God toward those that would seek to steal His glory and harm His children. So when we sing songs with lyrics like We fall down and lay our crowns at the feet of Jesus, let s consider that it s not just about His mercy and love, but also The mighty power of God in whose presence we stand bow kneel or fall. Soli Deo Gloria (To God Alone be the Glory) Jim Humphreys, Director of Worship Ministries. 22
