PRELUDE SINGING OUR PRAISES ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING THE LOVE OF CHRIST WITH NEIGHBOR LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE *CALL TO WORSHIP One: I looked over Jordan, that river we all will eventually cross... Many: O Lord, what a vision. I could see the saints singing and dancing. I saw grandpa fishing in the Crystal Sea, I heard grandma humming in the kitchen... Many: O Lord, what a vision. There were countless others, all faithful disciples, gathered worshiping... That old man who sang solos in the choir, That young man whose life was cut short in that accident... Many: O Lord what a vision. But the most amazing thing I saw as I looked over Jordan... Many: Yes? Yes? Was the man standing in the shallows, smiling, saying Many: "Welcome home." You may speak their name aloud or silently. We are thanking God for their witness in our lives as those who have kept the faith and now wear the crown of Righteousness because of their Lord Jesus the Christ. (1 Timothy 4) PRAISE TEAM For All the Saints #2283 PRAYER We bless your holy name, O God, for all your servants who, having finished their course, now rest from their labors. Give us grace to follow the example of their steadfastness and faithfulness, to your honor and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen HYMN For All the Saints vs 1,2, 4 & 6 #711 EPISTLE LESSON Revelation 7:9-17 GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 5: 1-12 SERMON INVITATION TO THE LORD S TABLE In the United Methodist Church we celebrate and observe an open table. All are welcome, just as Jesus welcomed all to eat with him. Saint and sinner, male or female, skeptic or wise, slave or free no one was turned away at the meal. It is only required that we come with open hearts to this table, realizing that God might do something miraculous in our lives and the life of this community as we remember, honor and marvel at this gift we are given through the limitless grace of God, the self-giving love of the Christ, and the life giving power of the Holy Spirit. MUSIC FOR MEDITATION
PROFESSION OF FAITH We are not alone, we live in God's world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the church: to celebrate God's presence, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS HYMN OF DEDICATION Take our Bread #640 sung while the offering is being taken SERVICE OF THE TABLE The peace of the Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. We praise you, O God, in the assembly of your faithful people. In the Christ you have given us a spirit of wisdom and revelation, enlightening the eyes of our hearts to see beyond the struggle of this present day to the resurrection of all your people, when the hungry will feast and the mourners laugh, and all will embody the fullness of the Christ. In him you have given us the gift of your love and forgiveness, the power of your sustaining spirit, and the firm foundation of your most blessed word. Through him that which is mortal is clothed with immortality, that which is perishable puts on imperishability, and that which has no honor becomes worthy of praise. Wherefore, most loving God - we set before you this table - in praise and in thanksgiving to you and to Christ Jesus WORDS OF INSTITUTION Almighty God, whose people are knit together in one mystic communion, we pray you to send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this bread and this cup - that they may be for us the body and the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Grant that we may we rejoice in the holy men and women of every time and place, and with them know your forgiveness and love and grow in grace as we advance in years. We ask it in the name of Christ Jesus, praying together the prayer he taught us... LORD S PRAYER SHARINGTHE MEAL We Fall Down insert Holy, Holy #2039 PRAYER AFTER RECEIVING Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship, in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord. Amen *HYMN In Unity We Lift Our Song #2221 *BLESSING Your saints surround us, your Spirit guides us. Your saints surround us, your Spirit guides us. Your saints surround us, your Spirit guides us. Revelation 7:9-17New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) The Multitude from Every Nation 9 After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 10 They cried out in a loud voice, saying, Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb! 11 And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 singing, Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen. 13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from? 14 I said to him, Sir, you are the one that knows. Then he said to me, These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. 16 They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; 17 for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Matthew 5:1-12New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) The Beatitudes 5 When Jesus [a] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [b] on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
