St. Colman February 2, 2014 Page Two The prophet Malachi tells us that the Lord will send a messenger. He will send someone who will be a purifier, someone to help prepare the people for entrance into the temple of the Lord. Luke provided us the scene at the temple where Mary and Joseph bring their firstborn son to be offered to the Lord. Simeon recognizes the child as this purifier, as the one sent to be a light of revelation to the Gentiles and glory for your people Israel. This is a sign of the love of God for his people. Jesus is presented as a suffering servant who came to lay down his life in the temple, they participated in God s unfolding plan to redeem us and to provide a light to the nations, a new hope for the world. A Family Perspective Mary and Joseph were amazed by the words of Simeon about their son. At times, we will be presented with things we never new about a member of our family. Being open to the light of this revelation is the key to falling in love all over again. CDA COURT WESTINGHOUSE #759: Is once again collecting blankets to make sleeping bags for the homeless. Boxes will be at the entrances of each door in the vestibules of the Church. Please consider helping the homeless in our community through this charitable program. Next Sunday, February 9th Central Blood Bank will be here for a special Blood Drive on behalf of a young parishioner, Greyson Fullgraf who has been fighting a serious illness one prayer at a time. The Blood Drive will be held in the school cafeteria beginning at 9am and ending at 2pm. Your blood donation and prayers will be greatly appreciated. BLESSING OF THROATS St. Blaise was the Bishop of Sebaste in Armenia during the fourth century. According to various accounts he was a physican before becoming a bishop. From the eighth century he has been invoked on behalf of the sick, especially those afflicted with illnesses of the throat. In the United States the annual blessing of throats is a traditional sign of the struggle against illness in the life of the Christian. Monday, February 3rd, is the Memorial of St. Blaise. The opportunity to receive this blessing will be offered after the 8:30 am Mass and 6:30 pm. TOGETHERNESS Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name; speak to me in the easy way you always used to. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Life means all that is ever meant; there is absolutely unbroken continuity. I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. One brief moment and all will be as it was before, only better, infinitely happier and forever. We will all be one together in Christ.
