A Joyful Noise January 2019 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. A Blessed New Year for All Vice-Senior Warden Mark Perschbacher Christ Episcopal Church 1216 Seventh Street Anacortes WA 98221 360-293-5790 office@christchurchanacortes.org www.christchurchanacortes.org Office Hours: Monday-Thursday 10:00 am Noon 1:00 4:00 pm Sunday Services Christ Church 2nd Sunday Chandler s Square Community 1300 O Avenue, Anacortes 2nd Sunday Weekday Services Wednesdays Thursdays Centering Prayer Gifts and giving are certainly hallmarks of the Christmas season. From a scriptural standpoint, we are told that God gave the greatest gift to us in his son Jesus. Epiphany continues the theme with the story of the Wisemen and the precious gold, frankincense, and myrrh they presented to Him. Giving gifts to those we love is great, but helping out those in need, who we may not know personally, is just as important. As Christians, we are directed to help the poor and destitute. This past December, Christ Church distributed over $46,000 to a variety of charitable organizations, from profits generated at our Red Door Thrift Shop. In addition, we distributed over $17,000 to community organizations from funds donated directly by our congregants and an additional $8,000 in Outreach funds from our operating budget. Through the generosity of our congregation and hard work of volunteers, Christ Church is able to make a difference in our world. I have always found this passage in Hebrews particularly moving, Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:2) Remember to mark January 20, the date of our Annual Meeting, on your calendar. We will spend some enjoyable time together as we review the past year and thank those who have served. Treasurer Lorne Render will present the 2019 operating budget and the congregation will approve our new Bishop s Committee members and Diocesan Convention Delegates and Alternates. I hope to see you there. Wishing all of you a happy and blessed New Year, Mark The Anacortes Cold Weather Shelter Is in Need of Volunteers If you would like to volunteer, please contact Deacon Eric Johnson 360-840-5415, AnacortesEric@gmail.com

In this grounded, practical book, author Derek Olsen uses The Book of Common Prayer for a template to a deeper spiritual life. Olsen explains the purpose and intention of the prayer book with fresh insight, offering practical applications for daily living. The book is available on Kindle or from Deacon Eric. A study guide for the class may be found at ChristChurchAnacortes.org; a direct link to the guide may be found at http://bit.ly/2qf1b32 Written in an engaging style that is both conversational and informative, Inwardly Digest is a timely invitation to life in the Spirit sustained by the patterns and rhythms of the Prayer Book.
