From Dream to Innovation: Hadassah s Israel Milestone Mission October 7-15, 2018 (As of 8/24/17) Day 1: Sunday, October 7, 2018: DEPARTURE Depart the United States on overnight flights to Israel. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 2: Monday, October 8, 2018: WELCOME TO ISRAEL! Individual arrivals throughout the day and transfers to hotel. Transfers are included for all arrivals today. This evening, we enjoy a special festive opening reception at the Ha aretz Museum, including welcome introductions, keynote speaker, entertainment and dinner. Overnight in Tel Aviv Day 3: Tuesday, October 9, 2018: HI-TECH We begin together at Independence Hall, where David Ben Gurion declared Israel s independence in 1948, with a special ceremony celebrating Israel s 70 years of independence! Explore the incredible progress made since the declaration and foundation of the state to today s start-up nation with a visit to the Taglit Innovation Center, and meet with a young Israeli entrepreneur. Lunch (on own) at the Sarona Market.
Visit a medical marijuana farm and see the industrial technologies helping to shape this new frontier. We spend the evening in Jaffa at the Peres Center for Peace & Innovation, founded by late President, Shimon Peres. The center is a leading non-profit, non-political and nongovernmental organization whose vision is for a prosperous Israel and a peaceful Middle East, focused on innovation and cutting-edge peace building programs. While at the center we will learn about their goals for the future, enjoy a panel headed by Dalia Itzik, former Speaker of the Knesset and interim President of Israel, and enjoy dinner and entertainment. Overnight in Tel Aviv Day 4: Wednesday, October 10, 2018: HADASSAH S IMPACT IN HAIFA Breakfast and check out of our hotel. (Luggage will be collected and transferred directly to our hotel in Jerusalem). Visit and programming in Meir Shfeya, celebrating youth aliyah. The village was established in 1933 to bring youth to Israel after the Shoah, and today focuses on supporting and engaging the youth in Israel. Meet with graduates and celebrate their accomplishments. Travel to the Naval base in Haifa, including a special program with base leadership. Lunch in Haifa (on own) Continue to the spot where Hadassah opened the first hospital in Haifa at Bnei Tzion in 1922, which remained in operation until 1931, when operational control was given to the Haifa Jewish Community Association. At the hospital, we meet with the innovators creating new technology that will shape our future. Visit Atlit, a former detention compound for Jewish immigrants who arrived in Israel illegally during the British Mandate period. We take part in a moving meeting with Israelis that were detained there during the time, as well as those that helped the Jews coming to Israel to escape the terror in Europe. Hear the amazing story of Raquela, Hadassah nurse, who worked at Atlit. Enjoy a sunset dinner with live musical entertainment along the Caesarea shoreline. Travel to Jerusalem Shehecheyanu under the stars over Yerushalayim Check in to our hotel.
Day 5: Thursday, October 11, 2018: HISTORY & INNOVATION Nurses will experience spending time with Israeli nursing colleagues in East Jerusalem where they teach heart healthy choices to young school girls and their mothers & learn about the top Nursing Trends in Israel. Lunch on our own. Meet the two Hadassah Nurses who were invited to address the UN. Hear presentations on Cultural Competency, end of life ethical issues and palliative care, tailored medicine, nurses on the front lines helping sexually abused women and children. Feel proud as you hear how Hadassah s School of Nursing is on the forefront of Innovative nursing! Evening Gala dinner together this evening. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 6: Friday, October 12, 2018: JERUSALEM IN-DEPTH Choose Track A, B, or C to lead you through Jerusalem. TRACK A: War of Independence; the struggle for Jerusalem Visit Latrun, Israel s armored corps museum, where we are guided by a young soldier as we explore the tanks and artillery used by the Israeli Defense Forces throughout the country s history Tour the Burma Road by jeep, as our guides narrate the struggle for Jerusalem in 1948 and tell stories of famous Biblical sites along the way Picnic lunch at a key overlook en route to Jerusalem Our guide gives us a summary briefing regarding the 1948 fight for Jerusalem, including a Harel panoramic view and a look at the Kastel. TRACK B: New Archaeology in Jerusalem Explore the City of David s (Ir David) continuing excavations Walk via the recently extended tunnel from Ir David to the Davidson Center Discover the amazing new section of the Western Wall tunnels TRACK C: Donor Recognition Visits to Ein Kerem for gifts since 2012
ALL: Optional Visit the Western Wall before Shabbat. We join together for Shabbat dinner at Blaustein Hall with a gorgeous view of the Old City walls and the Tower of David, where we listen to guest speaker presentation. Day 7: Saturday, October 13, 2018: SHABBAT SHALOM! Free morning for Shabbat services (options provided). Choose a walking tour this afternoon: o Track 1: Walking tour of the Talbiya/Rechavia neighborhood o Track 2: Walking tour of Yemin Moshe, the first neighborhood built outside the Old City walls; along the way, meet people helped by Hadassah. Afternoon learn-a-thon with speakers and teachers in Jewish studies, politics, Israeli culture and more. As Shabbat comes to an end, we join together for Havdallah with Hadassah friends. Free evening in Jerusalem. Option to attend the spectacular Tower of David Sound and Light show. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 8: Sunday, October 14, 2018: CELEBRATING HADASSAH Visit to the Knesset and meet with Members of Knesset and Lobbyists As our time together draws to a close, MARCH TOGETHER in the footsteps of our nurses throughout the streets of Jerusalem from the Jerusalem municipality building via the old Hadassah College, the first hospital built outside the walls of the Old City, to Beit Ticho, site of an original eye clinic. Enjoy a light reception in the garden, a celebratory ceremony and a warm farewell for Safe Travels. Transfer to the airport for our flight back home.
