Good Morning! Join us as we submit to Living for God-Sized Results in 2019! January 19-28 Daniel Fast Overview The Daniel Fast is a spiritual discipline designed to better connect us with God. We will take 10 days, to deepen our relationship with God and center ourselves on what God is going to do in our church and in our lives during this series. We are praying that hundreds of people will come to faith in Christ. The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, which means that we will eliminate some common things from our daily diet, but will have generous options available. We will focus on eating fruits and vegetables that are pure and simple. We have included the four food groups below. Remember this is simply plant based nutrition. *If you have any known medical conditions or suspect such conditions, consult your doctor before beginning the fast. THE FOUR FOOD GROUPS: 1. The Whole Grain Group: This group includes brown rice, oats, barley, millet, and products made from whole grain. Grains are filling with little fat and no cholesterol. 2. The Legume Group: This category includes peas, beans and lentils. Legumes are hearty, high protein foods with a low glycemic index. They are rich in calcium, iron, and cholesterol-lowering soluble fiber. These will drive down your weight, blood sugar and cholesterol. 3. The Vegetable group: The green vegetables--asparagus, broccoli, spinach, kale, collards, and many others are packed with iron and except for spinach, high in absorbable calcium. Orange - colored vegetables are loaded with beta-carotene, a cancer fighter. For example, carrots and yams. These foods are loaded with vitamins and minerals, and are very low in fats, and like all plants foods, they have no cholesterol and have a low glycemic index, except baking potatoes. 4. The Fruit Group: Fruits are loaded with vitamins and they have no fats or cholesterol. Nearly all fruits: apples, bananas, blue berries, cherries, oranges, peaches and most others have a low glycemic index. The exceptions are watermelon and pineapple. Arm with the Truth We are to Arm the unchurched with the Truth of God s Word (John 8:31-32, 17:17). Affirm with Faith We are to Affirm them in their Faith in Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 1:24; Gal. 4:14). Animate with Hope Once they are Affirmed in the Faith, they will become enthusiastically hopeful realizing the Word of God is true and their salvation is sure (1 Pet 1:3, 3:15). Key Statement: Regardless where you been or what you ve done, Jesus can use you. 1. Jesus saves us from ourselves (vs. 1-6). 2. Jesus gives us a divine destination (vs. 15 & 16). 3. To fully understand the present, you must understand the past (vs 20 & 22). 4. God chooses people with troubled a past (vs 13-15). 5. In the same way God gave Saul another chance, He will give you another chance (v. 15). 6. Your life changes when you acknowledge the truth (vs. 19b & 20). Personal : Father, thank you for your love! You loved me so much that you saved me from me. I owe my life to you!! I was leading myself into utter destruction and you picked me up and turned me around. It was you who set my feet on solid ground and now I have a divine destination. Thank you for this New Year, another opportunity to get it right!! You chose Saul as an instrument in your hand to carry the Gospel to the Gentiles. Please use me as an instrument to carry your word to this lost and dying world. Show me how you would have me to serve you. I will forever, live to love and to serve you in all that I do. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen. 8
