Good Morning! Join us as we submit to Living for God-Sized Results in 2019! January 19-28 Daniel Fast Overview The Daniel Fast is a spiritual discipline designed to better connect us with God. We will take 10 days, to deepen our relationship with God and center ourselves on what God is going to do in our church and in our lives during this series. We are praying that hundreds of people will come to faith in Christ. The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, which means that we will eliminate some common things from our daily diet, but will have generous options available. We will focus on eating fruits and vegetables that are pure and simple. We have included the four food groups below. Remember this is simply plant based nutrition. *If you have any known medical conditions or suspect such conditions, consult your doctor before beginning the fast. THE FOUR FOOD GROUPS: 1. The Whole Grain Group: This group includes brown rice, oats, barley, millet, and products made from whole grain. Grains are filling with little fat and no cholesterol. 2. The Legume Group: This category includes peas, beans and lentils. Legumes are hearty, high protein foods with a low glycemic index. They are rich in calcium, iron, and cholesterol-lowering soluble fiber. These will drive down your weight, blood sugar and cholesterol. 3. The Vegetable group: The green vegetables--asparagus, broccoli, spinach, kale, collards, and many others are packed with iron and except for spinach, high in absorbable calcium. Orange -colored vegetables are loaded with beta-carotene, a cancer fighter. For example, carrots and yams. These foods are loaded with vitamins and minerals, and are very low in fats, and like all plants foods, they have no cholesterol and have a low glycemic index, except baking potatoes. 4. The Fruit Group: Fruits are loaded with vitamins and they have no fats or cholesterol. Nearly all fruits: apples, bananas, blue berries, cherries, oranges, peaches and most others have a low glycemic index. The exceptions are watermelon and pineapple. Did you participate in the Daniel Fast last year and want to share your experience, please submit a short testimony (two sentences or less) to admin@mtzionontario.com. 3

Keep Right On Sharing the Message about Jesus Acts 5:12-42 Pastor Brian Kennedy, Sr. TEXT QUESTIONS TO PASTOR AS HE IS PREACHING TO: (909) 638-2696 The message about Jesus (the gospel) refers to Jesus dying on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection from the dead to secure our love relationship with God (I Cor. 15:1-4; Rom. 5:6-8; John 3:16). Through Jesus, we experience God s love, forgiveness of our sin, the removal of our guilt and shame, a new nature, a new life, and a new calling in life to help others experience a love relationship with God (II Cor. 5:14-20; Matt. 28:18-20). Progress statements on the early church (Acts 2:42 & 47; 4:32-35; and today 5:12-14). Key Statement: What happens when we keep right on sharing the message about Jesus? A. The Church will Continue Growing (Acts 5:11-16; cf. 2:43-44, 47). 1. Peter dealing with sin in the church increased reverence in the church (vs. 11). 2. God continued to use signs and wonders to attract people (v. 12; cf. 4:29-31). 3. The church continued to meet in the temple area (v. 12; cf. 3:11). 4. Some non-believers respected Christians, but did not give their hearts to Jesus (v. 13; the phrase none of the rest, references non-believers - Luke 8:10; cf. Rom. 11:7; Eph. 2:3; 1 Thess. 4:13; 5:6). Dealing with sin, put people on notice (Acts 5:1-11). 5. Other non-believers gave their hearts to Jesus (v. 14) Some believing, and others not believing is a recurring theme in the book of Acts, and throughout church history. 6. God working miracles was tied into the continued growth of the church (vs. 15-16). B. The Church will Continue to Grow Even in the Face of Persecution (Acts 5:17-18; 27-28). 1. Peter and the Apostles were arrested (v. 17). a. The motive for the arrest was jealousy (v. 17). b. The desired outcome for the arrest was to stop the spread of the message about Jesus (v. 18; cf. Acts 4:1-3; 15-18). c. The concern was about the power in the message about Jesus (John 11:47-48). d. Despite the threats they kept on spreading the message (Acts 5:27-28). 2. In the face of persecution, God will open doors for His people (Acts 5:19-21). 3. In the face of persecution, God will check the enemy (Acts 5:21-26). a. This powerful group met several time (Acts 5:17, 21; cf. 4:5-6; Luke 22:66). 4. In the face of persecution, God will embolden His people (Acts 5:27-32). 5. In the face of persecution, God will intervene for His people (Acts 5:33-40). 6. In the face of persecution, God will encourage His people (Acts 5:40-41). a. They rejoiced for being persecuted for Christ (v. 40; cf. Matt. 5:10-12). i. The physical abuse was to reinforce the repeated verbal threats (v. 28). b. They kept right on spreading the message about Jesus (Acts 5:42). Personal : Lord, with all the alternatives the world s system offers for solutions, and happiness in life, I appreciate the consistent love, deliverance, change, power, refreshment, peace, joy, and hope the message about Jesus provides. Despite all the distractions, the criticism, the rejection, and even the physical persecution, empower me to keep on spreading the message about Jesus. I live to love and serve 8 You. In the name of Jesus, I pray, amen.
