The Story We Find Ourselves In: An 8-Month Journey Through the Bible September 2015 May 2016 How well do you know the Bible? Many of us know bits and pieces, the popular stories that continually make appearances in Sunday School. But do you know how it all fits into One Grand Story? Beginning this September, coinciding with our new 8:45 worship service, I want to do something I ve always wanted to do: take a period of months and preach through the biblical story from Genesis to Revelation. From September to Advent we will hear the story of Israel from creation to exile (Genesis to Malachi). From Christmas to Easter we will hear the story of Jesus (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). For the 50 days of Easter we will hear the story of the church s beginnings (Acts to Revelation). If you would like to use this occasion as an opportunity to read through the Bible, I would encourage you to begin May 1 and conclude April 30. I plan to do so. This will have you completing the Old Testament by Christmas and beginning the New Testament as we begin the story of Jesus in worship. A brochure is available at the church to guide you. The readings will also be listed in the monthly newsletter calendar. I also recommend The NRSV Daily Bible which divides the Bible according to days and offers a shorter portion of the reading to focus on, as well as a quote from a noted spiritual writer. This Bible is also available for your Kindle or NOOK. Be prepared to find yourself in the greatest story ever told and be changed! Greg Tentative Time-Line for being back in the Church Sanctuary 1) Insulation was completed by 04/10. 2) Week of 04/13 - crews will be hanging and finishing drywall. 3) Week of 4/20 - trim will be installed and walls and trim will be painted (this may take more than a week if there are any problems) 4) Week of 4/27 - the wood flooring in the Sanctuary will be installed, sanded, and finished. 5) Week of 5/4 - carpet will be installed, lighting fixtures will be re-installed, and touch up work will be completed 6) Week of 5/11 - pews will be re-installed 7) After everything else is complete, the organ will be re-installed and tuned Mark your calendars for Vacation Bible School! June 8-11 at 9:00-12:00 To register your child visit: https://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/cc/fbcjasper See Kym McCrary or Kim Mason to volunteer!

Music News: The JOY Choir will sing at the CBF Senior Celebration on Monday, May 18 here at FBC of Jasper. We hope to have singers from other congregations join us for a mass choir. Any members of the Sanctuary choir in attendance that day are invited to be a part of the choir. We will sing All That Thrills My Soul Is Jesus and Wonderful Grace of Jesus. Don t forget the Children s Musical on Wednesday, May 20 as part of the missions awards night. We are in the process of ordering new hymnals for the Sanctuary to replace those that were damaged by water, but only the damaged copies will be covered by insurance. If you would like to purchase and dedicate copies of Celebrating Grace Hymnal for Baptist Worship in honor or memory of someone, please submit $15.00 per copy to Allison in the church office along with your dedication information. A label will be placed in the front of each copy you donate with your name and dedication. In Christ, Matthew Newton Children s Ministry News: Our children have learned a lot this year in their music and mission programs thanks to the dedication and wonderful leadership of our Wednesday night leaders! It s hard to believe that May is already here and regular school year activities are coming to an end. I hope you will make plans to attend the end of the year program for music and missions on Wednesday, May 20. A summer calendar with lots of wonderful opportunities for our children and families will be available soon. I hope you will participate when you can! Kim Mason Youth News: Hello Church, May is going to be busy month for the youth! We are looking forward to Youth Sunday on May 17th. We will also be joining Jasper UMC that evening for an outdoor game night. Many of our students are graduating May 23rd. Preschool News Children Learn What They Live Many years ago, a writer and family counselor wrote a poem which has stood the test of time. It bears repeating, especially when we consider how much our children pattern their behaviors around those who care for them routinely. If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn. If children live with hostility, they learn to fight. If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive. If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves. If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy. If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy. If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence. If children learn to live with tolerance, they learn patience. If children learn to live with praise, they learn appreciation. If children learn to live with acceptance, they learn to love. If children learn to live with approval, they learn to like themselves. If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal. If children learn to live with sharing, they learn generosity. If children learn to live with honesty, they learn truthfulness. If children learn to live with fairness, they learn justice. If children learn to live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect. If children learn to live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those around them. If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live. - Dorothy Law Nolte Blessings, Janella Brand Head of Preschool Donuts with Dad - 04/15 Pre-K Field Trip to Home Depot - 03/27
