Call to Worship: Listening God, from the least to the last, you hear and answer our prayers. We come to renew our vows to you and to worship and praise our Saving God. Faithful God, you offer abiding hope to all who place their trust in you. We come with joy to celebrate the blessedness of worshipping our God. Forgiving God, you are indeed the hope of all people and all creation! In your sanctuary amongst the people of God we know your peace. We come,...though our hearts are filled with sins, you forgive them all.. and in your mercy, Generous God, you have quieted our inner being. Joyous praise and reverent honor is forever due to our Awesome God! *Hymn: #401 Here in this Place *Prayer of Adoration

*The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Call to Confession Prayer of Confession Gracious and merciful God, we enter your house weary; tired of the load we carry. We confess that we have not been your people in the world. Where we should have stood up, we have remained stagnant. When we should have cried out against injustice, we have remained silent. When we have seen evil done to others, we have turned our faces. Holy God, forgive us. Create in us new servant hearts that beat to the rhythm of justice. Give us eyes to see others as your children. Lead us to reconciliation with others and with you.

(silent prayers) Assurance of Pardon *Sung Response: #582 Glory to God" Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me, and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me, and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen. World without end, without end. Amen. World without end, without end. Amen. World without end, without end. Amen. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen. Prayer for Illumination PROCLAIM GOD S WORD Old Testament Lesson: Joel 2:23-32 Page: OT 848

Anthem: Precious Lord, Take My Hand" Dorsey/Schrader The Choir Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, help me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; through the storm, through the night lead me on to the light. Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. When my way grows drear, precious Lord linger near, when my life is almost gone; Hear my cry, hear my call, hold my hand lest I fall: Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home. A Scripture Conversation Gospel Lesson: Luke 18:9-14 Page: NT 81 Sermon: Humbled Exaltation *Hymn: #275 A Mighty Fortress is our God

*Affirmation of Faith: From The Scots Confession We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom only we must worship, and in whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. As we believe in one God, so we firmly believe that from the beginning there has been, now is, and to the end of the world shall be, one Kirk, that is to say, one company and multitude of persons chosen by God, who rightly worship and embrace God by true faith in Christ Jesus, who is the only Head of the Kirk, even as it is the body and spouse of Christ Jesus. Amen. GIVE THANKS TO GOD Offerings of Tithes and Gifts Offertory: "One Great Spirit" Celebration Ringers Kathleen Wissinger

We Welcome John McDonald John McDonald is a native of Elkton, MD and is a member of First and Central Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. He is a recent graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary, where he earned a Masters of Divinity and Masters in Arts in Practical Theology with a concentration in pastoral care. Stewardship 2014 Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. - I Peter 4:10 For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has not according to what one does not have. - II Corinthians 8:12 New Castle Presbyterian Church is about to begin a new year of God s grace. Each of us has an opportunity to demonstrate the faith that God has given us, with whatever gift God has given us. In the coming weeks, you will hear testimonies from members as to how God has made a difference in their lives and how this church has been a part of that. Consider the goodness of God in this place, and consider the opportunity to support this Body of Christ into the future. Make plans to attend our annual Stewardship Brunch on November 3 after worship to hear more about what God is doing in our midst! Sign up today in the Fellowship Hall!

Seamen s Center Christmas At Sea The Mission and Outreach Committee would like to remind everyone that we will again be supporting the Seamen s Center Christmas at Sea program this December. As in past years, we hope to provide 30 to 40 ditty boxes which include various items such as shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, candy, etc., as well as hand knitted scarves and hats. Over 1,300 ditty boxes are given each year to the seamen who arrive at our port by ship during the month of December. This is our opportunity as a church and as individuals to be a part of the bigger world as we share our resources and our gratitude with those who work hard all year long to provide us with essential goods. For those wishing to participate, please see the poster in Fellowship Hall. Items should be delivered to church by November 3, 2013. Anyone with questions about the program should contact Ellie Gerhart (328-0908) or Barbara Whisman (322-6234). All Saints We celebrate the saints that have gone before us on All Saints Sunday, November 3. The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving during communion will include the names of those dear to us who have entered the Church Triumphant. Please be prepared to fill out a form with a beloved s name that day to include in the offering. If you cannot be present but would like the name of someone who has died to be remembered, please call the church office (328-3279).

A New Hymnal "O sing to the Lord a new song, for God has done marvelous things!" --Psalm 96 Our new hymnals are here!! This new hymnal, Glory to God, contains over 800 hymns, psalms, and spiritual songs. Approximately 50% are from the 1990 hymnal. The remaining pieces are from former Presbyterian hymnals, other denominational songbooks, and individual authors and composers. At New Castle Presbyterian, we have been using selections from Glory to God for the past two years in worship. We still need contributions to the finance this project. Envelopes are available in the pews to make a donation. The price of each hymnal is $18.00. You may dedicate your contribution in honor or in memory of a loved one, and this will be acknowledged on a nameplate in the front of the hymnal. We currently have received $1,501.00 to offset the $3798 spent from Special Gifts to pre-order our 200 copies. The Worship Committee thanks you for your support of this new venture! If you would like to have your contribution included in our November 3 Hymnal Dedication service, make your donation today! "To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen." --Phil.4:20

Donate a Frozen Turkey If you earn credit for a free turkey this fall please consider donating that free turkey to a Christmas Food Basket project being organized by the Newark Area Welfare Committee. Beverly Stoudt is co-chairperson of this large undertaking. Approximately 375 families and senior citizens will receive a week s worth of non-perishable food on Saturday December 21. Each basket also will be accompanied by a 10 15 lb. frozen turkey for Christmas dinner. Many grocery stores are offering bargain prices and offers of free turkeys before Thanksgiving. And, some companies give their employees a free turkey for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. If you have accumulated credit or expect a gift of a turkey and do not want it, please consider giving it to our Christmas Food Basket project. We will need your donated turkey any time before Sat. Dec. 21. If you plan to donate please call Beverly Stoudt, as soon as you get the turkey, at 368-9354 to arrange for pick up and storage. We have a facility that will store as many turkeys as we can get. If you would like to bring your donated turkey to any Sunday church service that would be wonderful and hopefully easy for your family. Put it in the kitchen freezer and tell Beverly it is there. If you want to purchase a turkey and donate it we will be very grateful. Remember the prices are much better before Thanksgiving than after. We will pledge a turkey. We will bring our donated turkey to church. We do not have space to store a turkey and will need to have our donated turkey picked up. Please call our family at. Thank you for considering this loving project and taking the time to secure a frozen turkey. Beverly Stoudt (368-9354) Newark Area Welfare Committee P.O. Box 951, Newark, DE 19715
