Welcome Preparatory Devotional & Prayer WE PREPARE TO MEET WITH GOD Asterisks (*) denote portions for congregation to stand. Unless otherwise stated, all Scripture quotations are from the English Standard Version (ESV). Congregational readings are in bold. The Greeting of God GOD SUMMONS US INTO HIS PRESENCE The Call to Worship: Psalm 98:1-2: 1 Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2 The LORD has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. WE RESPOND TO GOD S SUMMONS *Hymn of Praise: Trinity Hymnal 731, Doxology *Opening Prayer *Hymn of Praise: Trinity Hymnal 15, Come, Let Us Sing unto the Lord Reading of the Law: Matthew 5:27-30: GOD DECLARES HIS LAW 27 You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell. 2

Silent Prayer of Confession Confession of Sin (Unison): WE RESPOND TO GOD S LAW Heavenly Father, you have called us to holiness (1 Thess 4:3), and to use our bodies as instruments of righteousness (Rom 6:13). Yet we have cherished our sins and given our hearts to adultery and all kinds of impurity. Father, forgive us for grieving your Holy Spirit (Eph 4:30). Have mercy on us for offending you in this way. Purify our hearts, Father, and grant us to love you and to delight in your commandments with all our hearts. Through Jesus our Lord, who died for sinners (Rom 5:6) and fulfilled all righteousness (Mt 3:15), forgive our many sins. Amen. Reading of the Gospel: Romans 5:18-21: GOD DECLARES HIS GOSPEL 18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man s obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Confession of the Gospel (Unison): I believe that Jesus Christ is truly God, born of the Father in eternity and also truly man, born of the Virgin Mary. He is my Lord! He redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, bought and won me from all sins, death and the authority of the Devil. It did not cost Him gold or silver, but His holy, precious blood, His innocent 3

body His death! Because of this, I am His very own, will live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him righteously, innocently and blessedly forever, just as He is risen from death, lives and reigns forever. (Adapted from Luther s Small Catechism) Assurance of Pardon: Hebrews 5:7-9: 7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9 And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, WE RESPOND TO THE GOSPEL *Hymn of Thanksgiving: Trinity Hymnal Trinity Hymnal 92, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God GOD TEACHES US HIS WORD Reading of the Word of God: Colossians 3:1-25: 1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. 12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate 4

hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. 18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. 22 Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality. Prayer for Understanding Preaching of the Word of God: Full-Time Ministry Christopher Seah WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD Hymn of Response: Trinity Hymnal 516: Jesus, I Live to Thee A Prayer of Response Thanksgiving Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church The Republic of Singapore The Holy Church of Jesus Christ The Lord s Prayer (Unison): Matthew 6:19-13 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, 5

and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. *The Confession of Faith (Unison): The Apostles' Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic + Church; + universal the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
