Lesson 8 Whatever You do Promise of the Week: Whatever I do, I do it for God. Memory Verse: Colossians 3:17 (ESV) says, And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father Leader Note: It s all about the end result these days. Work hard so you can get somewhere, earn something, be on top, and make the grade. Our girls are learning that the result is more important than the journey to it. The Bible speaks much differently. God says that who we are, while we re doing what we re doing, is more important than the end result. As believers our witness comes not from what we achieve but how we act while achieving it. Are we kind? Are we humble? Are we honest? Today we seek to teach girls that whatever you do is important because it tells about who you are. Your character and integrity shine bright in the midst of running the race, studying for an A, campaigning for Class President and even coming to Girlz for God. The other kids in your school are watching what you do and how you do it. Lesson 8: Whatever You Do CAPTIVATE: Dressed for Success Props - 2 separate piles of clothes Each pile contains: (*substitute whatever items you have at home!) pair of socks, sweatpants or shorts, T-shirt, a scarf, jacket or sweater, pair of tennis shoes Good morning! It s so good to see that all of you put on your clothes this morning to come to Girlz for God! Did any of you wake up late this morning? Were you in a rush to get dressed and ready for school?

What s something you leave out/don t do on mornings you wake up late? (ex. don t eat breakfast, don t straighten my hair, etc.) This morning we are going to see how fast you can get dressed! I need some volunteers. (* Play the game) Choose 2 groups of girls with 3 volunteers each. Place the piles of clothes on one side of the room and the groups of girls on the other. When you say go, one member of each group will race to their pile of clothes and choose one thing to put on (ex. one sock or the T-shirt). Then they run back and tag the next member of their group who will race to put on one thing (ex. the other sock or the scarf). The group continues like this until all articles of clothes have been put on and the first group finished wins the race. CONNECT: As each group member raced to the pile of clothes, they had to choose something to put on. It s a good thing to put on clothes in the morning! I guess if we all lived in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve then we d never be late to school because we wouldn t have to worry about getting dressed?! The Bible says there are other things we need to put on in the morning, more than just clothes. Colossians 3:12-17 (ESV) 12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do through him. CULTIVATE: Props - Index Cards with things we should put on: * One quality per index card (9 cards total) Compassionate hearts

Kindness Humility Meekness Patience Forgiveness Love Peace Thankfulness Have girls get into groups of 2-4 (depending on how many girls are attending). You should have 9 groups total. Ask each group to discuss what quality they should put on (the one listed on their index card) and give an example of a situation where they would use that quality. (Ex. Humility not proud or arrogant, respectful. You win the office of Class President but instead of rubbing it in the faces of those that lost, you shake their hand and congratulate them on a great race.) Give groups 3-5 minutes and then have them share with the whole group. Verse 16 says Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly Why? In order to live out all those qualities we discussed, we need the word of Christ dwelling (living) in us. This is why reading your Bible and coming to Girlz for God is so important. We are putting the word of Christ into our hearts and minds. We want it to dwell there richly. Richly is the Greek word plousios (ploo-see'-oce), which means abundant or much in quantity. If there are more God-words in you then worldly-words, then what comes out of you when you talk, act and serve will be godly characteristics. COACH: Why is it so important to prioritize putting on godly qualities more than a cute, trendy outfit? When we fail a math test or get left off a birthday party invite or a friend gossips about us or we have a fight with our mom, what comes out?? The cute Converse you put on that morning OR what s inside your heart? How does what s in your heart affect whatever you do? Colossians 3:17 says, And whatever you do, in word or deed, do Whatever you do is what people remember more than your perfect hair day or great outfit. They ll remember what you said to them when they

lost the game or had a bad day. They ll remember how you acted in the hallway when they bumped into you. They ll either remember your kind smile or hateful gossip, your patience during a group project or your frustration, your forgiveness when they screw up or your hurtful words. Whatever you do is about the Jesus inside you that comes out because you chose to PUT ON compassion, kindness, humility, and patience, instead of seeking to win, come in first, be popular and get the guy. WHATEVER YOU DO, whether what you say or how you act, do it ALL in the name of JESUS. Promise: Whatever I do, I do it for God. Leader Note: Ask the girls to raise their hands and make the following promise: Girlz 4 God Promise of the Week: Whatever I do, I do it for God. Memory Verse: Colossians 3:17 (ESV) says, And whatever you do, in word or deed, do EMAIL to the Parents:

Re: Girlz 4 God Lesson 8 Whatever You Do Dear Girlz 4 God Parents, Thank you for allowing your daughter to attend Girlz 4 God this week! Today we talked about putting on godly qualities every morning. More important than what we wear, is the Jesus we claim as Lord. Too many times what comes out of our hearts is me-centered be the best, win the race, be more important than the next girl. By putting on Jesus first every morning we can honor him with whatever we do and say. Things we can put on are: Compassionate hearts Kindness Humility Meekness Patience Forgiveness Peace Thankfulness Whatever we do should bring glory to God but it means taking the time to read his Word and talk to him in prayer. Knowing our God through a personal relationship means we can act more like him in our daily life. Girlz 4 God Promise of the Week: Whatever I do, I do it for God. Memory Verse: Colossians 3:17 (ESV) says, And whatever you do, in word or deed, do
