Pastor s Message December 2014 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV) Dear friends, grace and peace be yours from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I recently had the opportunity to conduct three infant baptisms. I can t imagine a more precious time in the life of a family than when they bring their newborn child before the Lord. In the act of baptism I pronounce their full name, (hopefully correctly), first, middle and last. Sometimes there are several middle names, usually connected to favorite relatives, or a certain special meaning. Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, he was described by his names. He would be the Messiah Anointed One. He is given the same name as Joshua which means God Saves. And Isaiah, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, called him by names that can only be described as supernatural: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 2

If we grasp the incredible attributes ascribed to this child and the eternal establishment of his righteous kingdom, then we would be fools to ignore and reject his call on us to receive him as our king. He is born to us in this world as a son of man, but he is also that One who is the embodiment of the Ancient of Days. Daniel 7:12-14 (NIV) informs us, In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. During this Christmas season, we have an opportunity to descriptively name who Jesus is in our lives. Is he the one described in these pronouncements of scripture? Or is Jesus merely a good story of gentle, humble beginnings to be told in a decorated church and then set aside for another story of Santa and football games? The birth of the infant Jesus means little if we do not name him personally as our Lord and follow him through Golgotha to the empty tomb. His name is no benefit to us if he is not the one who births us into his holy family and gives us the name, forgiven, redeemed, disciple, my beloved, new creation. May God enrich you this Christmas with the reality of his work within you, the ever present fellowship of His Holy Spirit, and the joy of your salvation. May you desire to live your salvation in a way that will proclaim him to this sin-sick world. Enlighten your loved ones, friends and neighbors with the pronouncement of the only One born who is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Merry Christmas! Hello there, Mousey here. Ahhhh, Life is Crazy Good! Well November is zipping by. I think I am getting to be an older mouse, and that happens. The Meatball Dinner was a huge success and there was lots of people here. Must have been way over 300 people at the dinner. Then there was the Silent Auction. I was up there and almost got trampled there was so many people. Thanksgiving is coming! Food! I hope there is going to be enough food for me to eat. Sure hope I can catch a ride over to Chad and Holly s on the 29 th to make the float for the Christmas Parade. It was a little work and lots of fun when I was there last year. Speaking of Chad and Holly, has everyone seen that beautiful baby, Hattie Jo? And I heard Jake is now in his Big Boy bed. Got to move on up to be a big brother. I love Fall, but the Christmas season is coming. To celebrate Jesus birth is absolutely the best thing that happens each year. All the Christmas songs, the Christmas Program the children do, and the Christmas Eve Service. Lund members will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Did you know that all of the money collected in the buckets at Christmas stays in this area? I like that. May you all feel the power the celebration of Christ s birth brings. Till next month Mousey ******************************************************* Starting in January the calendar in your Newsletter will have a name from the congregation on each day of the week, please take time to pray for those people on that day. 5
