Dear Friends in Christ, From the Desk of Father Reed C. Mungovan, S.D.S. This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. Fr. Francis Fernandez in his book series, In Conversation with God, writes about the Holy Family, A Christian home must be an imitation of the house of Nazareth: a place where there is plenty of room for God so that He can be right at the centre of the love that members of the family have for one another. Is our home like this? Do we dedicate to it the time and attention that it deserves? Is Jesus its centre? Do we live only for others? These are some questions we which we could ask in our prayer today, whilst we contemplate Jesus, Mary and Joseph on the feast that the Church dedicates to them. I love this idea of Christ being the center of our homes and the center of our lives. The questions that Fr. Fernandez asks are good questions that can help us to put Jesus first in our lives and to allow Jesus to be the center of our homes and the center of our lives. May God bless you, Fr. Reed Christopher Mungovan, SDS Holy Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, pray for us. MGC S BOOK OF THE GOSPELS Since the Second Vatican Council, the Church has recognized the many ways that Christ is present to us. These include the worshipping assembly, the priest ordained in persona Christi, the sacrament of the Eucharist in Holy Communion, and the words of Christ Himself spoken in the Gospels. That is why we say it is Christ Himself who speaks to us in the Gospels. For that reason, the Church has held the Gospels in higher esteem than the other books of Scripture. Thus, the Church ordains a particular minister (the deacon) to proclaim the Gospel which is sometimes accompanied by candles and incense for greater solemnity. The Gospel Book itself has therefore been accorded a higher degree of respect and ornamentation since the earliest days of the Church both in the East and the West. For over twenty years, MGC has had an ornate, brass cover for its Book of the Gospels. Given the time and the usage, this cover now needs to be refurbished as a fitting symbol of Christ s presence among us. Therefore, we are seeking a donation of $550 to accomplish this refurbishing of our Gospel Book. If you are able, a donation for this worthy purpose may be made by a check made out to Mother of Good Counsel Parish and sent to the parish office. Such donations will be acknowledged. Support a Culture of Life!!! The Crib Club Baby Shower and Women's Care Center Fundraiser kicks off Jan. 5th!! A representative from the Women's Care Center will speak at each Mass next weekend to share with us the Care Center's mission and how it touches hearts, saves babies, supports Moms, builds families, and educates parents. New baby items: clothing (up to 2 yrs.), diapers, supplies, toys, books are needed for the Crib Club Store. Envelopes for monetary donations to support a mother through Women's Care Center from pregnancy through the baby's 2nd year will be available at the end of the pews and in the pack-n-play display in church.

December 19, 2018 Dear MGC Parish Community, Mother of Good Counsel School A Catholic Preparatory School 3001 North 68 th Street Milwaukee, WI 53210 Phone: 414-442-7600 x118 Fax: 414-442-0644 Website: www.mgcparish.org This has been quite a week here at Mother of Good Counsel School. Yesterday our 8 th graders and I carried hundreds of donated food items over to the St. Vincent de Paul room, and then they carried 150 presents from the parish living room to my office. These gifts represent the generosity of the MGC parish members. For more than the 28 years I have been here, the St. Vincent de Paul Society has sponsored the Advent Giving Tree. Every November I send out a letter to our school families informing them that they have the opportunity to participate. This year 77 MGC students will each receive two gifts from the Giving Tree. Those gifts represent close to $2000.00!!! As our mission at MGC has changed from a school that served the children of the parish to one that serves children from all over the city, the need for these gifts has grown tremendously. I can assure you that if not for your kindness and generosity, many of our students would not know the joy of opening presents on Christmas morning. I am always amazed by the generosity on both sides of our campus. Many of the same families that donated food are the ones who will receive these gifts. While to some that might seem strange, it makes perfect sense to me. In Deuteronomy 6:17 it says Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you. I think it is important for our children to understand that scripture and to recognize that even if you can only give one can of vegetables it is our call as people of God to do so. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your generosity. I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Blessed New Year! Faithfully, Regina Shaw Principal Don t just throw your Christmas tree out on the curb, be more environmentally correct by recycling it at: Mulchfest sponsored by Enderis Park Neighborhood Association Sat. Jan. 5, 2019 -- from 9AM to 12 noon Bring/drag your tree (and any other you find on the curb) to the Enderis Park Fieldhouse between 9am and Noon on Jan. 5 and watch the City of Milwaukee s chipper truck grind it into mulch. The city of Milwaukee uses this mulch on its boulevards for beautiful flower beds. Bring your kids/grandkids they love watching the chipper truck in action. Be sure to stop in the Fieldhouse for some free refreshments (coffee, hot chocolate, spiced apple cider and cookies). *If you can t make it to the park on Jan. 5 th, you can drop your tree off in the volleyball court on the East side of the Fieldhouse. **After 12noon on Sat. Jan., 5 PLEASE, NO MORE TREES IN THE PARK!!
