WELCOME IN THE NAME OF JESUS! LIVING SAVIOR LUTHERAN CHURCH welcomes you as you join with us in worship this day. May the Holy Spirit bless you with the message you hear from God s Word, the prayers, the hymns, and the fellowship we share with you. Here is some information you might find helpful: A Nursery/Family Room is in the Family Life Center next to the offices. The service can be viewed and heard in there through a closed circuit screen. Restrooms are located in the Family Life Center. Please fill out attendance note pad in pews and place your sheet in the offering plate or hand to an usher. We ask guests and members to fill them out each week. Please let us know if we can help you in any way. HOLY COMMUNION: We are very glad that you have joined us today for this worship service where we hear the Word of God and receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. This church is in fellowship with other congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. As such, we believe and practice the biblical teaching that we receive the true Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in, with and under the bread and the wine of the Sacrament (Matthew 26, Mark 14 and Luke 22). If you have a different understanding of Communion or are still learning about this biblical teaching, we love you enough to ask you not to receive Holy Communion this morning (1 Corinthians 11). However, you are welcome to come forward for a blessing at the time of Communion. If later you have any questions about this or any other teachings, the pastor would be very pleased to talk with you. WE HAVE COME TO SHARE IN CHRIST Has a friend ever asked, Why do you go to church? While there are many good answers to that question, we are reminded today of the primary reason we gather in a place like this, for a service like this, on a day like this. The author to the Hebrews reminds us: For we share in Christ (Hebrews 3:14). Going to church isn t primarily something we do; church is, first and foremost, something God does for us. Through His Son, Jesus Christ, who is present with us through His Word and Sacrament this day, we are privileged to share in the blessings of the blood-bought forgiveness and Easter-sealed life our Father gives to us. So, the next time someone asks you why you attend church, let them know about the Savior you encounter and get to know every time you gather in a place like this, for a service like this, on a day like this. We have come to share in Christ! PRE-SERVICE MUSIC (Hymns for today s worship will be played.) RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please take time now to fill out the attendance record book located in the pew and place it in the offering plate later in the service.) CALL TO WORSHIP (CHOIR & CONGREGATION): COME INTO HIS PRESENCE (Unknown) Choir: Come into His presence singing Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. All Men: Come into His presence singing Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord. All Ladies: Praise the Lord together singing Worthy the Lamb, worthy the Lamb, worthy the Lamb. Everyone: Praise the Lord together singing Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God! WELCOME / ANNOUNCEMENTS WE CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD (Please stand if you are able.) In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. OPENING SENTENCES Psalm 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with Your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. OPENING HYMN: LEAD ME, GUIDE ME LSB 721 3

1953 Doris M. Akers; admin. Alfred Music. Used by permission: LSB Hymn License.NET, no. 100013105. CALL FOR CONFESSION (Please be Seated) That we worship our faithful God with cleansed minds and hearts, let us join in a time for silent prayer and confession. We reflect on God s Word and our great need for Jesus. Faithful Father, hear Your children pray: Forgive us for the many times and many ways we have broken Your commands. By what we have done and by what we have failed to do, we have sinned against You and against one another in thought, word, and deed. By the mercy You show us in the cross of Your dear Son, cleanse our hearts and minds of our guilt and shame. Grant that we, holding fast to the promises of our risen Savior, live with confidence in the grace that draws us into Your holy presence. In the name of our Savior we pray. Amen. LORD, HAVE MERCY Mark 10:47 In peace let us pray to the Lord. 4

For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord. For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. GOD FORGIVES OUR SINS Brothers and sisters, we have gathered in the Lord s name and in His house so that we share in all the blessings of life and salvation Jesus freely gives to all who repent of their sin and trust in Him. Upon this your confession, I, as a servant of the Lord, announce His grace to all of you and, in the stead and by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive you all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST Luke 2:14; John 1:29 Glory to God in the highest, and peace to His people on earth. LSB 170 Choir: Lord, God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father: We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise you for Your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God: You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. You are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer. For You alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, In the glory of God the Father. Amen 5

GREETING. The Lord be with you. And also with you. PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. Lord Jesus, Your grace goes before us and behind us. Your love is over us and beneath us. Your faithfulness will ever lead and guide us. By Your Word, draw us into Your presence and help us to treasure all that we share in You; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS WORD GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS PROPHET Amos 5:6 7, 10 15 Seek the LORD and live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, with none to quench it for Bethel, O you who turn justice to wormwood and cast down righteousness to the earth! They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks the truth. Therefore because you trample on the poor and you exact taxes of grain from him, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine. For I know how many are your transgressions and how great are your sins you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe, and turn aside the needy in the gate. Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time, for it is an evil time. Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said. Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. (CHOIR) HOW LOVELY AND HOW PLEASANT Mahnke 6

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS APOSTLE Hebrews 3:12 19 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called today, that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PSALM 112 Psalm 112:3 6; antiphon: v. 1 All: Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in His commandments! Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice. For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS WORD Mark 10:17 22 The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the tenth chapter. Glory to You, O Lord. As Jesus was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother. And he said to him, Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth. And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. CHILDREN S MESSAGE 7

HYMN OF THE DAY: OH, THAT THE LORD WOULD GUIDE MY WAYS LSB 707 1 Oh, that the Lord would guide my ways To keep His statutes still! Oh, that my God would grant me grace To know and do His will! 2 Order my footsteps by Thy Word And make my heart sincere; Let sin have no dominion, Lord, But keep my conscience clear. 3 Assist my soul, too apt to stray, A stricter watch to keep; And should I e er forget Thy way, Restore Thy wand ring sheep. 4 Make me to walk in Thy commands Tis a delightful road Nor let my head or heart or hands Offend against my God. Public domain GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH OUR PASTOR: HEART-LED OR CHRIST-LED? Hebrews 3:12-19 WE CONFESS OUR FAITH USING THE WORDS OF THE APOSTLES CREED (Please stand.) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen. PRAYER OF THE CHURCH (Please be Seated) Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. Gracious Father, it is Your gracious will that we sinners come to You in faith so that we may share in Christ. We thank You for the forgiveness we have in Him and for the assurance we are given that You hear and answer us for His sake. Lord, in Your mercy, we share in Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Lord of the Church, You reveal Yourself wherever Your Word is proclaimed in all the world. Grant that all souls burdened by sin and guilt find salvation in You. That we proclaim Christ to all those for whom He gave His life, guide us here at Living Savior and Your people throughout the world. Lord, in Your mercy, we share in Christ, the Lord of the nations. Your Word, O Lord, commands us to pray for those in authority and in leadership over us. Bless this land in which we live. Grant that all those who govern us do so diligently. Grant that all those who enforce our laws do so wisely. Grant that all those who serve us do so wholeheartedly. Lord, in Your mercy, we share in Christ, upon whose shoulders our government rests. 8

Faithful healer of both soul and body, we lift up before You those who are suffering in any way: physically, mentally, relationally, and spiritually. [Especially we pray for...]. Grant that their hearts and minds be guarded in Christ Jesus. Lord, in Your mercy, we share in Christ, our merciful and healing Lord. Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. WE WORSHIP GOD WITH OUR OFFERINGS (The offering time is an opportunity for all of us to give thanks to God for the many ways He has blessed us. Members and regular attendees support God s mission and ministry as He works through this congregation. Guests are welcome to give an offering, but are not expected to do so. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on us children of men and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but share in the eternal life freely given us through faith in Jesus Christ. We give You thanks for the redemption You have prepared for us and for the invitation You have given that we receive His full pardon and peace. Send Your Holy Spirit into our hearts that He would establish in us a living faith and prepare us joyfully to remember our Redeemer and receive Him who comes to us in His body and blood. Amen. THE WORDS OF OUR LORD Matthew 26:26 28; Mark 14:22 24; Luke 22:19 20; 1 Corinthians 11:23 25 Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. PROCLAMATION OF CHRIST As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord s death until He comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26 Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Matthew 6:9-13 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
