Uniqueness is perhaps the key defining factor in God s plan of creation. God s grand design in Genesis 1 is word after word of God s unique, creative design. As unique as God is, so are His children. Each church ought to be a shining example of God s unique design, a fresh expression of His creativity. God has called each congregation to recognize itself as one-of-a-kind. We are not called to duplicate The Rock, The River, Holly Presbyterian, or First Baptist. God has designed us and called us to a unique vision within the context of our community. Discovering and discerning that vision must be the highest goal of our church s leadership team (LEAD). Some might ask; Why do we need a vision? Why can we not just attend worship, Bible classes, and fellowship events? Why can we not simply give to support missional causes? Consider that the steering wheel in a car allows you to unite the direction of the four wheels. Imagine for a moment what travel would be like if your car was four-wheel drive, and each wheel could independently move in whatever direction and at whatever speed it chooses. Now, consider a church that functions in this way; with each group trying to move the church to rally around its direction. You could easily have every group pulling in a different direction. The result is a great deal of work being done, but with little to no overall effect. Vision unites our work into a common direction. It helps us to work in sync with each other. It enables us to work collaboratively, supporting each other in word and action. Most important of all, it enables us to discover and discern God s unique purpose for Holly Calvary in this community. 1 Seeking His Will - Pastor Cliff

Library Corner - by Judy Wood Love always your sister in Christ Judy Wood FEATURES It s not about me live like you mean it - by Max Lucado Most teens have believed the pop culture push that it s all about me or self. As they grow and break free, seeking independence and who they are, they are often urged to look out for number one and put themselves first to find success and happiness. Max Lucado reminds us that it s not about us, it s all about God. He said, to say It s not about you, is not to say you are not loved, quite the contrary. It s because God loves you that it s not about you. It s through this shift in thinking that we can truly live an unburdened and happy life. Prodigals and Those Who Love Them - by Ruth Bell Graham Ruth Bell Graham knew about prodigals since two of her five children were spiritual wanderers. In this book she offers encouragement to those who are anxiously waiting for a prodigal s return. She talks about five prodigals, including John Newton and Aurelius Augustine, later St. Augustine who eventually "returned to the father." Ruth offers comfort and encouragement through Scripture, poems, hymns, prayers, and more. You will be touched by the honest feelings of pain, frustration, and uncertainty she shares as she learns about God's sovereignty and ultimate peace.
