From the Deacon s Desk We had another successful Dozynki this year thanks to the hard work of many people. I d like to send a special thanks to the cochairs Mark Leszczynski and George Sykala as well as Ray Baltazar. There are so many others who should be singled out but I don t want to forget anyone so I want to say thank you to all who helped in any way. Your efforts both large and small contributed to our successful fund raiser and once again brought our parishioners together working to keep our Church of St. Adalbert financially healthy. In the weeks ahead we will have an accounting of how well we made out but early results look promising and show us this is a worthwhile event not only as a fund raiser but as a fun raiser as well. We received many complements from those who enjoyed themselves and Donny P s Polka Band brought smiles to those who joined in the fun. Thank you and God Bless. Many of the these were not officially textbook pastoral ministry settings but they led me through an internal journey of reflection and renewal. The story of Zaccheus (Luke 19:10) and the various accounts set in Bethany (the home of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus) have inspired me. From Zacchaeus (Luke 19:10) I learned that Christ wants to enter our lives and be with us JUST AS WE ARE even while the rest of the world labels us and turns its back on us. As for Bethany, this must have been a special place for Jesus. So many of his parables and accounts of his life are set. It is not only a place where those tired from, beaten up by, or, even, rejected on the journey of life found comfort but so did Jesus. He must have enjoyed going there because the death of Lazarus moved him to tears. I often wonder who was ministering to whom when Mary was sitting and listening at Jesus feet. Was Jesus teaching something profound or did he just need someone to listen to him as he sat down weary from his journey of life? Who was extending love and mercy to whom? I d like to think that it was flowing both ways. Imagine creating a place with so much love and mercy that even our Lord Jesus would feel comfortable taking a respite on the journey of life.
