UARY 6, 2019 EPIPHANY
THE WEEKLY WORD by Pastor C. Chappell Temple There s just something about holidays and holy days that seems to click with my family. For Epiphany which we observe today is also the sixth birthday of our oldest English grandchild, Jedidiah, and we will be celebrating his milestone with all of the family in Katy. His youngest sister, however, Madi, was born on Easter Sunday in 2017, and his cousin Caedmon entered the world on Maundy Thursday, March 24, one year earlier. (I m always confused if they are one year or just three days apart in age!) On the other hand, we have some near misses in the family our son Andy was born just a few days before Father s Day (though he still managed to get me a gift somehow), and my mother-in-law was born just a day before the country was on July 3. Julie made her bonjour just hours before Bastille Day and even our daughter Angie was born on what the calendar says is National Chewing Gum Day, National Hot Mulled Cider Day, National Ghost Hunting Day, and even National Love People Day, something she certainly excels at doing. And as for me, I was born just hours after an Easter Sunday ended many years ago and I ve been trying to be on time ever since. In the end, however, whatever the day, scripture assures us that all of our times are in God s hands (Psalm 31:15) and that s a pretty good place to leave them. As we crack open a new year, thus, perhaps that should be our watchword for the days ahead. For no matter what they may bring, the truth is that we can t ever get ahead of God when it comes to the times of our lives, for He is already there, waiting for us. His compassions are indeed new every morning and great is His faithfulness (Lamentations 3:23). All we have to do is make every day not only Love People but also Love God Day as well.
