St. Michael s Episcopal Church Weekly Newsletter Grosse Pointe Woods, MI October 22th, 2017 Your Vestry! Kevin O Connor For reflection So, it's that time of year again, when members of the Vestry will be approaching you. No, not trick or treat silly. That time when someone asks you something hard. Would you like to join the Vestry? Don't panic. Take a deep breath. It is okay to check for the nearest exit. But, just this once, stop and really search your heart. If you have done this before, thank you. If you have yet to commit to a ministry like this, it can seem overwhelming. Your life may already be full and a challenge. Yes, that is important. But you are a person of faith, or you wouldn't be here. You are a member of St Mike's. Your church needs you. What are the earliest experiences you can remember of learning you needed to follow the rules and have enough money to be safe? When you are asked to give by a beggar on the street, by the Church, by a charity do you feel any tension or discomfort? Describe the feeling in both its emotional and physical forms. Can you recall a positive experience of giving anything time, money, work? How would you describe that experience? What was positive about it? Normally, we need but 4 people. This year, we've called 8 folks to the Profile committee, we need 4 for Vestry, and we'll need another 10 (perhaps) for the Search Committee. If you can, it is time to step forward. Time to take part. Think about it, please?
