Do you have a friend or relative who is searching for a faith home? Are you a Catholic who needs to complete initiation through Confirmation and/or First Eucharist? RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is the process in which the Catholic Church welcomes people into the Church. RCIA is much more than a program, it is a process in which conversion of the heart brings one to Jesus through learning, discussion, prayer, and community. We will begin the process in August with weekly meetings. Participants are invited to grow more deeply in their faith and discern if joining the Catholic Church or completing one s initiation into the Church is what they desire. WHO IS RCIA FOR? Unbaptized adults who are considering entrance into the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist Adults who were baptize in another tradition and are considering become a Catholic. Adults who were baptized Catholic but did not complete their initiation through Confirmation and/ or First Eucharist. Those who wish to have a refresher course about the Church. For more information or to register, please call Father Chandler, 222-0255. COME FOLLOW ME: Promoting Vocations in the Home and the Parish Wednesday, June 27, 6:30 p.m., Bethany Hall Please join Deacon Steven Reeves as he shares the story of his journey to the Catholic faith and the discernment of his vocation to the priesthood. Deacon Steven will discuss the importance of vocations and offer some suggestions on how we can encourage vocations in our families and our parish. Light refreshments will be served.

Give Water to Martin County! Because of a coal slurry in 2000 followed by several years of structural and budgetary mismanagement, the people of Martin County, Ky., have been without clean tap water. They have survived off of rainwater, water from springs, and water donations. Our youth group will be collecting water in the Narthex for Martin County until June 28. Gallon jugs of water are preferred, but plastic water bottles are also appreciated. We will be delivering the water to a distribution center on June 29. If you are willing to drive on the 29th, contact Elizabeth Williams, Youth Minister. Thank you to our very own high school youth group member, Emma Lane, who has taken the initiative to organize and lead this project! Thank you for your prayers and support of our youth! Prayers Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Charles Hoffman, husband of Ruby. We extend our sincere sympathies to Ruby and the Hoffman family during this time of loss. May the soul of Charles and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in God s eternal peace. K of C Baby Bottle Collection The Knights will be collecting the baby bottles that you filled with your spare change on Father s Day weekend, June 16/17, after each Mass, and on June 23/24. Proceeds from the Rose Sale and Baby Bottles go to the Pregnancy Resource Center in Louisville. Thanks for your support on these projects. Fr. William Diersen Council No. 13304 Prime Timers...... Dear Friends, This past Thursday, June 21, at 6:07 a.m., summer officially started! By the heat and humidity, I do not believe that anyone could have missed it. Fr. Ismael, who served the Spanish speaking community here at Immaculate Conception for the past three years, returned home to Mexico on Wednesday. It was a great help to me as I do not speak Spanish. The archdiocese is working on a ministerial plan so as to serve the community. If our collections for this weekend and next remain as they have been during the year, we will finish the fiscal year with a budget surplus. We have done this for the seven years that I have been here, and so thanks to all of you who donate and thanks for your generosity. Starting in July, our target for weekly offertory will be $17,500.00, and I ask for your continuing help. This allows us to pay all of our bills and remain financially healthy. I know that the children have noticed the new large piece of playground equipment. I want to thank Chris Quinn, the Parish Council and Finance Committee for all of their help. Everything we do here to provide a beautiful and inviting space for our parish family and for all of our visitors is made possible only by your continuing generosity, and I am deeply grateful for your commitment to Immaculate Conception. Some months ago I was interviewed for a documentary, Facing an Uncomfortable Truth, which explores the history and contributions made by Kentucky s early African-American Catholics as far back as the 18th century. It will be showcased today at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity High School in the Communications Arts Center, 4011 Shelbyville Road. It is set to be show on KET: July 26, 10:00 p.m. July 29, 10:00 a.m. July 30, 12:00 a.m. & 8:00 p.m. August 1, 7:00 a.m. August 4, 11:00 a.m. It is my understanding that EWTN will air it as well, but the dates have not been finalized. God bless, Father Chandler High School Youth Group We had an amazing experience in Copperhill, TN during our mission trip. Thank you for all the prayers. We really felt like we were the hands and feet of Christ serving our neighbors in need. Please see the TV in the narthex for some pictures from our trip! Sunday, July 8: Next youth group meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Bosco Hall. Wednesday, July 18: Archdiocese of Louisville Holiday World Trip. More info to come! Middle School Youth Group (6th-8th grade) Enjoy your summer! Wednesday, September 12: Youth group from 6:30-8 p.m. in Bosco Hall. See you there! Least Likely to Succeed Few, if any, of us would be likely to choose John the Baptist as the one to prepare the world to meet its savior. Most of us would feel awkward around John, given his food and clothing choices, and his constant reminders to repent of our sins. John's own father, Zechariah, doubted God's providence when he learned his wife Elizabeth would give birth to John. As a punishment, the angel Gabriel removed Zechariah's ability to speak. Luke's Gospel reading today recounts the moment when Zechariah acknowledges God's plan for his son. He supports Elizabeth--who had trusted in God's providence all along--and regains his voice. Zechariah rejoices in God's wisdom, praising God to all their neighbors. John's story reminds us how our instincts often run counter to God's wisdom. Though we avoid awkward and difficult people, God chooses a locust-eating man to show us the way to Jesus. The lesson of John the Baptist is never to underestimate the power and wisdom of God. This inspires hope! We, like John, are "fearfully, wonderfully made" (Psalm 139). God has beautiful plans for each of us.

Why do I need to be a registered member of the parish? It may seem a strange question. However, as the pastor, I have recently had requests to check on families or individuals where illness or tragedy had occurred. In several of these cases they were not registered and, as a result, I had no way of contacting them. This leaves me, as a priest, and the deacons more than flustered. We want to help! However, we cannot help if we cannot contact them or you. In order to make us more efficient, especially in times of emergencies, please take the time to register you and your family as members of Immaculate Conception Church. If you are not receiving envelopes or regular mailings from us, it s a safe bet you are not registered. Registration forms can be found near the television monitor in the narthex, or you can call the parish office, 222-0255, and register with Monica, our Parish Secretary. I also ask that you please update us with any changes we may already have on file. Please use the form below for any updates. Rental Policies at Immaculate Conception Here at IC, there are various rooms and facilities that can be rented or used by our active members. This includes use of the church for weddings, private baptisms and other sacramental events. Active membership is determined by four things: 1. Being properly registered in the parish. 2. Faithful attendance at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. 3. Use of the offering envelopes or electronic fund transfer systems in support of the parish. 4. Being active in some parish program, ministry or organization. Please note that our facilities will not be used for events that are contrary to our faith or moral beliefs. Weddings, wedding anniversaries, etc., are to be of Catholic form. This means that a wedding takes place in a Catholic church or at another church or venue with permission of the Archbishop and approved by the pastor of Immaculate Conception. PLEASE UPDATE ANY CHANGES: New address, current phone number, and email address: (Please print legibly.) Family last name, first name (head of household), spouse: Address: Preferred Phone: Include phone number on one call list: Yes No Email Address: THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME!
