www.mountmartharotary.org.au email: mountmartharotary@gmail.com Bulletin Monday 23rd November 2015 Meets weekly at Benito s Restaurant 1196 Nepean Highway, Mount Eliza 5975 8060 6.00pm for 6.30pm start November : Rotary Foundation Month Hello Rotarians The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster. 1. The development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service. 2. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. 3. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian s personal, business and community life. 4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. It was great last Monday to hear from a young lady who was so enthusiastic and committed to her cause. Stephanie Byrne from Fusion, gave us an uplifting insight into the work being put into assisting young troubled people in our community. This week s speaker is Mandy Lewis, a visiting Rotarian from Chicago. Her presentation will be preceded by our Annual General Meeting. Yours in Rotary Peter Warren President P E TER S PAT TER Rotary Club of Mount Martha PO Box 342, Mornington 3931 District Governor 9820: Merv Williams Assistant Governor 9820: Linda Morris President: Peter Warren 03 59748981 peter.warren5@bigpond.com Secretary: Barrie Sweeney 03 59751200 lorbar@internode.on.net Apologies and Guests: Barrie Sweeney by Monday 12.00 midday at the latest 03 59751200 0418 324 639 lorbar@internode.on.net Bulletin Editor: Colin Stokes Contributions by midday Thursday please chstokes@optusnet.com.au Website Editor: Colin Stokes chstokes@optusnet.com.au

Geoff Kaye, Bill Mackenzie, Esther Murray (PDG) David Piper, Peter Rawlings, Pat Reid, Roger Skipsey, Chris and (DG) Merv Williams LOA John Marshall, Wayne Norris, Justin Orr, Phyllis Scales, Dee Tozer Guest of Club Stephanie Byrne (Fusion) Visiting Rotarian Robert Tate (RC Wangaratta) Make Ups Doug Rhodes, Roger Annear, Byron Groves, Adrian Davis (District AGM) **** Minutes Monday 16th November 2015 President Peter opened the meeting and the normal formalities were undertaken. Peter welcomed our speaker Steph Byrne, Visiting Rotarian Robert Tait from Wangaratta Club Plus newest member John Waterhouse. Bill Cummins reminded people of the offer for A club visit to the T20 Big bash game on 20 th of December. Sheet being circulated to nominate for helping on Golf Day 27 th Freda took over as Chair person and called on the Sergeant to undertake his duties which included a number of fines on members, then the inevitable tricky questions to the select lucky people, this time based on Qantas. Roger the swindler was then called apon to conduct his swindle however the only winner again was the club. Freda then introduced Stephanie Byrne from Fusion. Steph told us about her visit to India as a 15 year old and her experience at a refuge for young people in India. It was here that she was awakened to the enormous injustices in the world and a statement made to here by one of these people has been part of her drive to help people. Because your white you can whisper and you will be heard because of my colour I can shout and I will not be heard Back in Australia Steph went on to study at Uni knowing the sort of life she wished to lead. She met Gemma from fusion at a function for young people and was invited to join Fusion where she has worked/volunteered since, her life ambition being realizedworking to help young people manage their life. Steph showed us a Video about Fusion at Mount Martha, the accommodation, the people, the volunteers the process and I believe we were all moved by the dedication and passion shown by Stephanie toward helping young people on the Peninsula.

ROTARY ROTARY CLUB CLUB OF MOUNT OF MOUNT MARTHA With the programs, the working bees and future renovation programs there are many opportunities for those wishing to help our youth on the Peninsula and an organisation that rely on Volunteers. FUSION Youth and Community Organisation (Christian). Fusion's services focus on community building and finding a sense of purpose. Our Youth work in local High Schools is helping young people to make value-based choices and discover their purpose in their community, while our Community Placement refuge is supporting young people to become the successful administrators of their own lives. http://fusion.org.au/ Following questions Freda handed back to P/Peter who thanked all in attendace especially our speaker Stephanie. Freda and Stephanie *T The Four-Way Test The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians often recite it at club meetings: Of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4 Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
