Becme familiar with the stry t s yu are cmfrtable telling it alud. As yu read the Bible stry t the Hawks, emply prps like gauze and ltin t demnstrate hw the Gd Samaritan helped the injured man. Shwing the stry in a visual way engages mst f the senses and helps the Hawks retain the Bible lessn better. Here are sme suggestins: Take turns pretending t be the injured man r ne f the ther characters f the Bible lessn. Have a child lie n the flr and pretend t be hurt. As yu tell the stry, have a priest walk by the injured child and hurry away. When yu tell hw the Gd Samaritan helped the man, rub ltin n the Hawk s hands and say: This is hw the Gd Samaritan put il n the hurt man. Use the gauze and lightly bandage a Hawk s arm while saying: The Gd Samaritan bandaged the man s injury like this. Select a Hawk t be the innkeeper and pay him with the play mney. Say smething like this: My friend is hurt. Please take care f him. If he wes any mney when he leaves, I will pay it when I return. Discussin Questins: Have the Hawks clr the sheet yu have brught with the picture f the Gd Samaritan as a yu lead with these questins. Here are sme 52

FAMILY TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION ACTIVITY Tw are better than ne because they have a gd return fr their labr. Fr if either f them falls, the ne will lift up his cmpanin. But we t the ne wh falls when there is nt anther t lift him up. Furthermre, if tw lie dwn tgether they keep warm, but hw can ne be warm alne? And if ne can verpwer him wh is alne, tw can resist him. D yu believe cperatin is imprtant when accmplishing family gals? Hw des each family member cntribute t the family? Are yur children aware f their skills and talents? D yu ever feel as if yur family is running in several different directins? Mst families have several different cmmitments s there isn't as much time t spend tgether. Fr this reasn, it is imprtant, nw mre than ever, t spend fun time tgether! When families are willing t listen t each ther and wrk tgether t achieve a cmmn gal, it creates a bnd that lasts fr a lifetime. The family unit is the perfect place t practice the fllwing teamwrk skills: trust, cmmunicatin, listening, and cperating with each ther. The Water Game is ideal t practice valuable life skills; yu will need tw blindflds, tw plastic cups, and a bttle f water. a) Blindfld tw family members; have ne sit dwn and hld the plastic cup n their head r lap. The ther family member will hld the plastic cup with the water and stand apprximately three r fur feet away. b) The third family member, using cmmunicatin skills, will direct the family member with the cup f water t pur it int the ther family member's empty cup. c) Everyne in the family will get a turn hlding the empty cup, puring the water int the empty cup, and directing where and hw t pur the water int the empty cup. T encurage children t talk abut their feelings, try asking these questins: Hw did yu feel when yu were waiting fr the water t be pured int yur cup? What were yu thinking when yu pured the water int the empty cup? When yu gt wet, hw did yu feel? Hw d yu think the ther family member felt when they gt wet? The definitin f teamwrk is many hands, many hearts, many minds, ne gal. Thrughut their lives, children will be invlved in many different grups. Since the family unit is where yur children will learn abut teamwrk, belw are three fun activities yu can d t practice wrking tgether. a) Make a cllage f varius grups r teams! Yu will be able t get sme ld magazines at yur lcal library t use. Have yur family lk fr and cut ut pictures 55

f children r adults wrking as a team; then glue them nt a pster bard. This will give yu the pprtunity t discuss hw each persn brings his r her wn special talents and skills t the family, team, r grup he r she is invlved with. b) Write a stry tgether! Have an adult start the stry; then each child will take a turn adding t the stry. Either a child r adult will finish the stry. With yunger children, have them draw pictures and write what they say under the picture. c) D a randm act f kindness fr smene else! Have the family decide what yu want t accmplish; what might stp yu; hw will each family member cntribute, and when d yu want t achieve yur gal? Hw will each family member cntribute? Since children smetimes have difficulty seeing their talents and skills, play the M&M Game. Put a dish f candy in the middle f the table and spin an empty plastic bttle. When it stps in frnt f a family member, everyne else states ne skill r talent the family member has. Then they take an M&M. Keep playing the game until all family members have an idea f their skills and talents. Family night is a gd time t try sme f these games and activities! As a Family, plan several family nights where yu can wrk n teamwrk and cperatin. Use the Bible verses prvided abve t talk abut hw they fit int the family and hw Gd really wants families t wrk tgether. 56
