J A N U A R Y 2 0 1 9 Faith Alive Church.. Growing Up, Growing Together, Going Out, In Jesus Name! V O L U M E 1 1, I S S U E 1 Let The Lord Make All Things New! If ANYONE is in CHRIST, he/she is a NEW creation; The OLD has gone, the NEW has come! 2 Cor. 5:17 (NIV) It was wonderful to share the weeks of Advent with you and Experience Christmas together as we learned from the people that God called and used on that first Christmas: people like Mary & Joseph, Elizabeth & Zechariah, the Shepherds who heard from God s angels, and the Magi who followed His heavenly star! God did something NEW and wonderful that first Christmas when Jesus was born to be Savior for all people and Lord of all creation! And just like back then, the Lord calls and chooses ordinary people like you and I to fulfill His divine plans and purposes in the world! God often calls us to participate in something NEW, but that means we have to be willing to let some OLD things go and embrace the NEW things the God is creating in each of us who willingly respond to follow Jesus as Savior of our souls and Lord of all our lives! What NEW things will you allow the Lord to do in you and through you as part of His Body here at Faith Alive Church? We will have our next Discovery 101 Class this January for all newer people or folks considering membership in our church in this New Year of 2019. We will meet just one time and share a meal along with teaching our basic plans and purposes from the Bible and answering your questions about our faith, core-values, mission and vision for the future! ANY and ALL adults can attend and you can help us pick the date by signing up in our lobby or contacting Pastor Rob directly. There is no commitment needed to attend and no pressure put on people to join; but we do LOVE to have people come find answers and learn more! ALSO: Our Church Council and Vision Team members will be looking at the whole upcoming year 2019 and praying/planning our new goals, actions, and hoped for results here on Mon. Jan. 14 th @7:00pm: Planning With Purpose. Please join us as the whole congregation is invited to come share ideas, make suggestions, and volunteer support; but most of all PRAY and PARTICIPATE in this whole process from January on forward through 2019 to see what NEW THINGS the Lord will do in this NEW YEAR of abundant life! We start 2019 with Holy Communion on the first Sunday [Jan 6 th ] and focus on Baptism the second Sunday [Jan. 13 th ]. We offer Baptismal Remembrance at the end of both 8:30am and 10:45am worship that day for believers to RENEW their vows to the Lord together. The Bible lessons from Epiphany will guide us through the weeks of winter and I look forward to sharing the 40 Days Of Purpose Church-wide campaign with all of you in the season of Lent as we answer that key question: What on Earth Am I Here For? That 40 Days will take us up to Holy Week and Easter this Spring! God is calling us to somethings that are NEW, but His eternal truth remains unchanging, coming to each of us surrounded by His amazing grace; His Word took on flesh to save us at Christmas and gave us the gift of God s perfect love now and forever; through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord! Micah Backpack News January 2019 We have increased our numbers by one we now serve 26 students. Our original dream was, and still is, to serve every child in the Palmerton School District, grades K-6, who needs the weekend meals. This year we offered the school district 28 backpacks. They needed 25. So our dream seemed to be achieved. This past month we received a request from the guidance counselor to add one more (since we had 3 on reserve so to speak). Isn t God wonderful how He does that? Takes care of our dream and their need! The guidance counselor wrote, I wanted to check in to see if you have one more bag. A student came to me and asked if he/she could get one. This particular student didn't always want to participate, but now that he/she is older, I think he/she is realizing his/her need. Thank you. We are so happy to be able to accommodate this student/family. The Micah Backpack Committee. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Thank you to Faith Alive for your tab contribution to Rajah Shrine Transportation Fund. Last year over 550 trips were made to the hospital in Philadelphia. While the drivers are volunteers, our expenses are high and your contribution is very much appreciated. Thanks, Dick Snell I d like to thank all the people that sent me a Christmas Card, it is truly appreciated. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all. Sharing our Faith: Evangelism thoughts Matthew 15:32-33 by Pastor Deb McLean Feeding the Four Thousand (NRSV) 32 Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat; a n d I d o n o t w a n t t o s e n d t h e m away hungry, for they might faint on the way. 33 The disciples said to him, Where are we to get enough bread in the desert to feed so great a crowd? Jesus showed miracles and ministry by example. As we start out the New Year 2019, you are going to hear me talk a great deal about feeding the hungry and hurting right here in Carbon County. Many of you have heard about Family Promise but may not have all the current Information. As a community of believers in Jesus, our Savior, there are opportunities to prepare a meal up to eight (8) times a year for the families that come to stay at Christ Community Church in Weissport. Before you can present the gospel the hungry need to be fed. If you feel God leading you please contact me by email, cell phone or at church. deborah.mclean1947@gmail.com 215-431-0411
