THE SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY Gathering Music March of the Kings Epiphany of the Lord January 6, 2019 ASSEMBLE IN GOD S NAME Kosche Prayer of Preparation (you may wish to prepare for worship by praying silently) Dear Lord, please teach me how to wait for you. I pray that you would make me aware of your presence in the world around me. Please give me enough faith so that I am bold enough to put all my hope in you. Amen Chiming of the Hour Greeting and Announcements Catherine Edmonson Call to Worship (responsive) (from Isaiah 60) Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. Lift up your eyes and look around; they all gather together, they come to you. Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and rejoice, because the abundance of the sea shall be brought to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you. A multitude of camels shall cover you, all those from Sheba shall come. They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord. Let us worship God! * Hymn of Praise 744 Arise, Your Light Is Come! * Call to Confession * Prayer of Confession (unison) Gracious God, we would like to be among those who saw the coming of the Christ Child, those who dropped all that they were doing and traveled to worship the coming of God's love into this world. And yet, merciful God, we must recognize all the times we are more like King Herod. Whenever we cling to the security of our privilege, rather than standing up for the rights of the oppressed.

Whenever we are blinded by selfishness, ignorance, and apathy. We confess our sins against you and one another, and pray that you will fill us with your light. Forgive these sins and the ones we dare not mention out loud... * Assurance of Pardon * The Congregation s Response: Gloria Patri Hymn 581 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, amen. Time with Children Prayer for Illumination PROCLAIM GOD S WORD Karen Reidenbach First Reading Psalms 72:1-7, 10-14 pew Bible pg. 464 The Word of the LORD. Thanks be to God! Anthem The Work of Christmas arr. Dan Forrest, text by Howard Thurman When the song of the angels is stilled, When the star in the sky is gone, When the kings and princes are home, When the shepherds are back with their flock, The work of Christmas begins To find the lost, to heal the broken, to feed the hungry, To release the prisoner, to rebuild the nations; To bring peace among brothers, To make music -- from the heart. Second Reading Matthew 2:1-12 pew Bible pg. 783 The Word of the LORD. Thanks be to God! Sermon Grace, Sin, and Humanity Tommy Suttle, Director of Discipleship * Communion Hymn 151 We Three Kings of Orient Are Tithes and Offerings Offertory Kings of Orient THE EUCHARIST The Invitation to the Lord s Table Hallelujah! The Lord our God Almighty reigns! Let us rejoice and exult and give God the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come. Cox Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.

The Great Thanksgiving and the Lord s Prayer The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise... Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever. Hear us now as we pray as our Lord has taught us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. The Words of Institution The Communion Prayer After Communion (unison) Loving and gracious God, from east and west, from north and south, you have gathered us at your table, called us your beloved, and fed us from your body. Transform us to be your body in the world, and fortify us by your Spirit, so that we may serve you and our neighbors with great joy. Amen. GO IN GOD S NAME * Hymn of Consecration 150 As with Gladness Men of Old * Charge and Benediction * PostludeTrumpet March Lully * Please stand at the * as you are able. Unison readings are printed in bold.
