NET PROFIT FROM BAR : $ 9,438.90 Transferred to General Fund $ 9,438.90 Happy New Year! As we head into another new year, let s keep all of our active duty personnel in our thoughts and prayers. Let us also give thanks to our many Veterans who have kept our country safe and thank them for their service. Thanks to the Women s Auxiliary and the Legion Riders and the many volunteers, the annual Kid s Christmas party was another huge success. Wow! To see the look on those kid s faces when they saw Santa ride in on his big red sleigh! The generosity of all who donated gifts is very heart warming. Once again, the donation of bicycles from Gary Schlorf was immeasurable! This is what makes Christmas special, watching the Kids. The State Commander visit and dinner this year will be held on Saturday the 19 th. Please make sure to make a reservation for dinner that night to show Commander Steve Aguirre and his wife Debbie our Post 36 hospitality. Sunday, the 20 th at 11:30 a.m. we will be hosting another planning meeting for the district Centennial celebration. Everybody is welcome to come to this brain storming session and share ideas about how to make this important event a success. As of right now, that event will take place on Armed Forces day which is Saturday May the 18 th. Stay tuned for further updates. Thursday, January 31 th marks a special kind of dinner. Our own Jennifer Dillion has scheduled a fund raising meal to raise money for an 8 th grade class. We will have these young women and men cooking and serving the meals! Please try to stop by that evening to help make that event a success. We are looking forward to another fun and successful year here at Post 36, so I would like to thank all of our volunteers, our staff and our officers for all they do all year long. -Kevin J. Smith Commander s Message 2019 is upon us, and I sure hope this coming year is as good as the last. I sure had fun, and on top of it, I got to marry my Best Friend. How will I beat that? The children's Christmas party was a huge success, with big thanks going out to Shelley Sperl and Cathy Worthington for charging through the all the present wrapping and other things that had to be accomplished behind the scenes. I know I could not list all who participated, sorry for not trying. This time of the year brings out a Secret Santa, he showed up in a U-Haul truck- his sleigh must have broken down. Seeing all the kids' smiles as they opened their gifts and especially while their excitement as the raffle ticket numbers were being called out...priceless. That is why I do what I do, it makes my heart happy. I would like to bring the Chili Cook-off back into the Post Festivities and the back onto the calendar. The cooler part of the year might be the best time to do this, any ideas would be welcome, let's get it on the calendar. Who's thinking the fireman from around the corner might want to participate? Just an FYI, that means it's time to get those recipes dusted off and tweaked as needed. The Department of Arizona Commander Steve "Chico" Aguirre and his wife Debbie will be having dinner with us this month, the 12 th of January. Get a reservation early, let's fill up the dining room once again. Ladies and Gentlemen, just another reason to get our loved ones dressed up, and show them off. I know I will. One other thing that the post is heavily involved with is the 100 th American Legion celebration. Another planning meeting with be right prior to the District meeting on the 13 th. I hope to see you there-11:30 sharp, bring all your ideas. I would like to also give a shout out to Cathy Worthington once again, as she has acclimated into the Post Secretary position without hesitation. She is doing awesome, swing in and say thanks when you can. Until next time, let's reflect on the year past, and look towards the year's future, by doing it better than last year, with a smile on our face. Steven Sperl, Commander

The past year has been a busy one and we are looking forward to a really fun filled year ahead. I would like to say YAY! another successful kids Christmas party down and boy was it fun. We had some new Elves helping Santa this year. Thank you Sheron, Julia, Alice, Joanne, Joan, Margaret, and the many other elves, thank you ladies for an awesome job. Also A HUGE SHOUT OUT to our ANONYMOUS BIKE DONOR, thank you once again for bringing joy to these children during this raffle. I always look forward to the kids' faces when Santa comes in on his Harley, that makes my heart smile. We are starting off with the Commander's visit, inviting Commander Steve Aguirre and his lovely wife Debbie Aguirre to join us for dinner, which is followed by the District Two meeting the next day. Be sure to make sure your reservations soon so we can fill the room and really make them feel welcome. I hope many of you signed up for the legion college, I hear it is a great program. I will be attending at the end of the month, right here at Post 36. Just a reminder Caddy Day will be here before you know it so make sure to start getting your teams together and picking out your caddys Auxiliary President Unit 36 Shelley Sperl Fellow Legionaires: Our holiday season has been very successful. It seems as though everyone was full of holiday cheer. Thank you!!!!! Our first installment of the Queen of Hearts was December 13, 2018. We had no winner. The Jack of clubs was drawn. Pot is now $400.00 dollars. Remember every Thursday we will have the Queen of Hearts drawing. I want to thank everyone for making Post 36 a wonderful place to be. Good people, good food and good times. Good memories are the building blocks of the soul and Post 36 has definitely placed some blocks in my soul. Here s to 2019. God bless you, Post 36 and The United States of America. Donald Duck Simons 2 nd Vice Commander American Legion Riders Hello to all in the New Year. I trust everyone made it through the holiday season unscathed, except for maybe a few pounds heavier. A good New Year s Resolution should get you back to your old self. As usual it was a busy month for the Riders, again. ALR 36 supported many of the Christmas rides and parties throughout December. Some of our events covered the Red Sleigh Run (parts 1 and 2), the Renegade Toy Run, and of course the Greatest Auxiliary Kids Christmas Party to date. It was a great event, and I want to give kudos to the Auxiliary for another great event. I do want to announce a few changes within the Riders. First is the addition of our new Road Captain, Dusty Wymer. Erik Bazila has stepped down due to his injuries from a motorcycle accident, we wish Erik a speedy and complete recovery and know he will be back with us soon. We are discontinuing the addition of brats on the second Tuesday wing night. It seems that they were extremely popular and were beginning to outsell the wings. On that note, we are looking to expand to the third Thursday of the month with serving brats for the Queen of Hearts and Game Night. Don Duck Simons has done a great job with implementing the Queen of Hearts back into our Post. I urge everyone to stop by and buy a ticket, or 6, between 2:00 and 7:00 on each and every Thursday for a chance to have your name drawn. Must be present to win! Who couldn t use a few extra bucks to help pay off Christmas bills? It is a progressive pot, so it gets bigger every time the queen is not found. Hope to see you all there. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!! Don Duckie Bracken President, ALR Post 36

Commander Hello Legion Family members. We have hit the homestretch everyone. Christmas and New Year s season is behind us and we are down to the short half of this administrative year. This month s article is short, as we are still planning for future events At our last Squadron meeting, we set our annual budget. Our budget is by calendar year, and we have set how our funds will be spent in the coming 12 months. A copy of our budget is published on our bulletin board for anyone interested in seeing where our funds are spent. As always, our Monday night burgers continue. We remain there on every Monday except the first Monday. Come down and try one of our handpressed, cooked to order burgers with your choice of cheeses. They are really delicious. As of the writing of this article, there still is no date for our next Texas Hold em tourney. Keep checking at the Post for a date and time that may have been determined after this article was written. We are hoping for early in the year, but as of right now, we don t have a solid date. And finally, keep watching for other upcoming events at Post 36. We have many activities on the way, not all of them fundraisers. In addition to the weekly Queen of Hearts drawing every Thursday, we have some general and some Legion specific events. Our annual Super Bowl party will be happening soon. Also, the Four Chaplains ceremony is coming up in February as well. A very moving tribute to some American heroes from World War II. Then before you know it, we will be having officer nominations and elections for next year. It will be here before you know it. I again want to thank everyone for your support of our Post, Unit, Squadron, and Chapter as we move forward doing our part to help Veterans and their families, as well as the community in general. None of the good work The American Legion does would be possible without your support and generosity. Thank you for being a part of something wonderful. Until next time Joe Roberts
