St. Paul s News JANUARY 2017 As you join us for worship this January, following our celebrating of the New Year and From the Pastor s Pen: St. Paul s, Happy New Year! As we begin a New Year together it is my hope and prayer that 2017 might be a year where we grow closer to God, and grow in service to our community and one another. Often the New Year is a time for making new commitments and beginning new practices. I encourage you to think of new ways that you might grow in following Christ during this New Year. Perhaps you may want to commit to reading scripture daily or being present in worship each Sunday. Or you could decide to serve another person each day or be more generous with what you have. No matter what you decide, I urge you to recommit yourself to following Christ this year. the Baptism of Jesus, we will spend a few weeks looking at the beginning of 1 Corinthians. This letter guides us even to this day as we seek to live in community with one another. So as we begin 2017 I share with you this prayer for the New Year written by Maren C. Tirabassi from our United Methodist Book of Worship. Creative God, you make all things new in heaven and on earth. We come to you in a new year with new desires and old fears, new decisions and old controversies, new dreams and old weaknesses. Because you are a God of hope, we know that you create all the possibilities of the future. 1

Because you are a God of love, we know that you accept all the mistakes of the past. Because you are the God of our faith, we enter your gates with thanksgiving and praise, we come into your presence with gladness and a joyful noise, and we serve and bless you. Amen. If you would like to donate flowers for the altar any time during the year, please call the church office at (419) 447-1743. Peace, Pastor Hannah Special January Birthdays 1-20 Janet Rennels 1-23 Shirley Counselman 1-27 Mina Huston If you are over 80 and would like your birthday listed, contact the church office Tuesday Lunch Bunch (This is for men & women) January 24 th, 2017 TJ Willies Contact Kathy Daniel for details 419-448-8418 2
