State Ride is coming!!!! As you all know our state ride will be here before you know it and we need your help! It takes a lot of volunteers to make this ride a success and for the days of August 16-19 we will need all the helping hands we can get. Here are some ways you can help: Set-up on August 16 in the evening or August 17 morning Set-up of auction items on August 17- morning Food service August 17 (hot dog dinner), 18 (pig roast) or 19 (breakfast) Club store Registration sign-in Helping get people to their assigned camp site Tear-down on August 19 Lots of other things I m probably forgetting We also need lots of auction items. The silent auction will be held on the afternoon of Saturday August 18 and we need donations- we take nearly anything! It can be new, unused, gently used or old and still useful or pretty. It does not have to be horse-related. I ve been asking my friends for items for years and they are always glad to give me things they don t use or never used or those great deals they got on Home Shopping Network that they had no idea what to do with once they got them. Folks love used tack, blankets, bits, saddles, leads, etc. Wondering what to do with all that jewelry you got from QVC? Donate it to our auction! If you own a business consider donating a gift card or gift basket of products. It s a great way to promote your business. For donations or to help with the ride, see me at one of our meetings, or contact me at rosemary4medinaohc@gmail.com or 440-382-7980. Thanks for helping! Rosemary Young

Jack s Stall 8/2018 This month my stall is clean. I don t have too much to write about. National Trails Day was a big success. I met with the park on the Thursday before NTD to scope out the horse trail projects. The park guys did a great job of staging materials. Our project was on the section of Wetmore 4-Mile Loop that runs parallel to Quick Road not far from the Little Meadow parking lot. We had about 30 hardworking volunteers in our group. After creating a good solid trail bed we installed a couple of 40 foot sections of 2 inch plastic grid work and filled the grids with stone and topped the whole thing with sand and trail mix. Everything was well tamped down and then the disturbed areas were naturalized. A swale was hardened to complete our day. Thank you park staff and volunteers. The June meeting ice cream social was very nice. Karen who is our ice cream social guru was missing. Something about a graduation in Maryland. It was not the same without her. What would we do without Rosemary Young? Please get your reservations for the State Ride/Pig Roast in to her as soon as possible. The sooner we know who is coming the better we can make plans for the event. The up coming day rides look like they will be a lot of fun. June 23 rd at Mohican and July 12 th at Wetmore. Check your email for updates. The next trail maintenance party will be July 14 th. Project TBA. Please come out and lend a hand. We have a lot of fun. Thought of the month: Don't worry about bitin' off more'n you can chew; your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think. As always, may your equine be with you as you traverse the trails of life. Jack Weese Remembering Colleen Marr by Ronda Urbank Some of you may remember Colleen and Bob Marr. They were MOHC members in the late 1990's. They rode Arabians and did some distance riding. They moved from Route 62 west of Sharon Center to Southern Florida where Bob managed a manufacturing business. He retired and they moved to Morriston FL. Colleen has suffered for at least 4 years with cancer. I received word from her daughter Wendy that Colleen passed away Monday morning June 11. Some of the older members will certainly remember her. If anyone wants to send Bob a card, the address is: Bob Marr 1650 SE 111 CT Morriston FL 32668

Lifetime Membership Amendment Resolution Proposed Bylaw Changes for Fall 2018 State Meeting Whereas the OHC Executive Cabinet would like to streamline the Lifetime membership award by allowing the Executive Cabinet to vote to approve Lifetime membership awards recommended by the Merit Awards Committee and Whereas the OHC Executive Cabinet would also allow Regional Mentors to be eligible to receive the Lifetime Membership Award, and Whereas it may not be clear what is intended in the current Bylaws by the words State officer and Whereas it is the current practice that Lifetime members must pay additional chapter assessments ant this is not clearly stated in the Bylaws, then. Resolve to amend paragraph 4.9.1 of the OHC Bylaws From: 4.9.1 Any person over the age of eighteen (18) who has rendered important service toward meeting the goals of OHC, has been a member in good standing for a minimum of five (5) years and has held the position of state officer, committee chairperson or committee member for at least two (2) years, may be awarded a Lifetime Membership on the recommendation of the Merit Awards Committee, if approved by a majority of those members voting at a General Membership meeting. Lifetime Members are exempt from paying dues, and shall be entitled to one (1) vote and may hold office if eligible under Article V. A lifetime member is exempt from paying dues to the state or to his or her primary county chapter. To: 4.9.1 Any person over the age of eighteen (18) who has rendered important service toward meeting the goals of OHC, has been a member in good standing for a minimum of five (5) years and has held the position of state officer or state director, as listed in Article V; regional mentor; state committee chairperson or state committee member for at least two (2) years, may be awarded a Lifetime Membership on the recommendation of the Merit Awards Committee, if approved by a majority vote of Executive Cabinet. Lifetime Members are exempt from paying dues and shall be entitled to one (1) vote and may hold office if eligible under Article V. A lifetime member is exempt from paying dues to the state or to his or her primary county chapter. Lifetime members must pay any additional chapter assessment. State Treasurer Term Limit Elimination Resolution Whereas the office of the State Treasurer requires special skills and experience to properly execute the duties of the office and Whereas it is often difficult to find a member with these special skills and experience to accept the office of State Treasurer, then Resolve to amend the OHC Bylaws to eliminate the term limits of the office of State Treasurer by amending paragraph 4.9.1 of the OHC Bylaws From: 5.1.7 No member shall serve more than two (2) consecutive elected terms in the same state office. To: 5.1.7 No member shall serve as President, Vice President, Secretary, or Regional Representative for more than two (2) consecutive elected terms in the same state office. A member may serve as treasurer for multiple terms without limit.
