OAK RIDGE NEWS SPRING 2017 Pastor & Wife s 19th Anniversary TRIBUTES My wife and I were looking for a wise, business minded, honest, down to earth, sincere, passionate man of God and we found that in Pastor Turner. Pastor Turner s words and actions consistently show that he is not looking for the celebrity, credit or praise, but instead to guide and teach us. He is a servant of God and a servant leader for us all. At the same time, we have found that the members of Oak Ridge are a true reflection of Pastor Turner s leadership, that this congregation follows his lead and make this a true church home where any willing man, woman, child or family can grow and contribute. This was immediately evident to my wife and I, as we continued to say Sunday after Sunday, how we could feel a genuine sense of love and compassion at Oak Ridge. Leadership is key in all that we do and we sincerely appreciate Pastor Turner and First Lady Tina Lisa s open arms and the way that we have been welcomed into the Oak Ridge Family. Sincere thanks from Brother and Sister Young. Special thanks to Brother Solomon and Sis Shahnaz Young and Deacon Coty and Deaconess McNeill for their beautiful heartfelt tributes. We would also like to acknowledge the Anniversary Committee Brother Reed and Sister Kimberly Partridge and Deacon Gregory and Deaconess Dianne Donnell for organizing a wonderful celebration for Pastor and Sister Turner. 3

OAK RIDGE NEWS SPRING 2017 5 ANNIVERSARY PICTURES From the Pastor s Pen.. Rest for the Weary Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, For I am gentle and humble in heart, and you Will find rest for your souls" Matthew 11:29 NIV The idea that the pace of life seems to continually increase stress and worry is a universal concept. There seems to be no end to the demands on our time and energy. Are you tired of the rat race? There is a solution. It isn t one that offers escape from the demands of life, but one that guarantees rest in the midst of the rat race. Jesus said, Come unto me if you are tired and burden. I ll make your load lighter and help you carry your burden (Matthew 11:28, paraphrase). My friends, Jesus offers us rest amid the fast pace of life. Christ doesn t always take us out of life s demanding situation. Instead, He invites us to allow Him to help us handle the demands. He wants to face each day and each challenge with us. Walking with Jesus Christ daily and trusting Him for guidance and wisdom to handle whatever comes is the way to experience rest in the rat race. Your Servant in Christ, R.D. Turner
