Artiste/ Presentation of the Month Amit Chatterjee Amit Chatterjee, the star Tabla player, has been making waves in each of his many personas. Amit regularly performs with some of the greatest names in Indian Classical Music. With an unique blend of both Farukhabad and Punjab s rich musical flavor in his music, he got these rare opportunities to receive blessings of great stalwarts and maestros of the likes of late Ustad Allarakha Khan, late Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri, late Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, late Pandit V.G.Jog, late Pandit Kishen Maharaj, and living legends such as Ustad Zakir Hussain and Ustad Ashish Khan. Equally brilliant within traditional as well as experimental genres, Amit has carved out a unique niche for himself in his diverse avatars as classical musician. Amit Chatterjee is a highly gifted tabla player. The internationally reputed Tabla Maestro, Pandit Sankha Chatterjee being the uncle and guru of Amit; found extraordinary talent and tremendous eagerness in little Amit to touch and play the tabla. He adopted Amit as his son and started imparting rigorous training from the tender age of five in typical Indian style of Guru Shishya Parampara. Amit is one of those rare tabla players who have been fortunate enough to acquire the intricacies and subtleties of both Farukhabad and Punjab Gharana. Rich musical heritage of his family provided Amit with the rare opportunity to come in close contact with and receive blessings from great stalwarts of Indian music Achievement A Commerce graduate (Hons) from Calcutta University, Amit stood first class and obtained SANGEET BIVAKAR DEGREE from Bangiya Sangeet Parisad Affiliated to Rabindra Bharati University Kolkata. Amit is a recognized Musician of ICCR, Delhi. He has received many prestigious awards such as "JADHUBHATTA" Award from Salt lake Cultural Association Kolkata in 2002 and the Prestigious "TALMANI" title from Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai.

Apratim Mujumdar Apratim was born on June 14, 1978 and raised in Kolkata, India. He was initiated to vocal music at the age of five under the guidance of his mother. At the age of nine he preferred to switch over to instrumental music - Sarod, a 25 string fretless ethnic Indian musical instrument of Senia Maihar Gharana. For next two decades he was tutored and groomed by Prof. Rabin Ghosh, disciple of Ustad Alauddin Khan.During this period he also received training for about two years from Shri Partho Sarothy, disciple of Ustad Dhyanesh Khan and Bharatratna Pt. Ravi Shankar. Apratim s entire training in music for over 27 years is in Guru-Sishya-parampara style in the lineage of Senia Maihar Gharana. His studies in music are still continuing uninterruptedly. Presently he is under guidance of Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, one of the senior most disciples of Bharatratna Pt. Ravi Shankar. He is Sangeet Bhaskar (Master in Music) from Pracheen Kalakendra, Chandigarh. Sur Mani title was conferred upon him by Sur Singar Akademi (Mumbai). Apratim is an empaneled artist of Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). On Nov 1, 2015 the New York State Assembly (USA) honored him with New York State Assembly Award. On February 5th, 2016 the Salt Lake Cultural Association, Kolkata conferred JADU BHATTA AWARD upon him. Style In the process of his prolonged dedicated training for over 26 years in traditional Dhrupadee Veenkar Style of Senia Maihar Gharana he has developed a distinguished playing style of his own. Deeply steeped into tradition Apratim's renditions are totally self-improvised and meditative in nature. His captivating virtuosity, sparkling imagination interwoven with prosodic progression, aesthetically unfolds true color of the raga. His metrical waves of sensitive melodic phrases and his intensity in performance create the ambience of charm and beauty in a short span of time.

Heiko Dijker Heiko Dijker is an Amsterdam based table player/composer whose playing is marked by enthusiasm and energy, depth of knowledge and rhythmic poetry. He left Holland at a young age to find true soulfulness in music and life. Hitch-hiking around the world on his own, Heiko was drawn into classical Indian music and the beauty of India. After years of traditional training in India, living in a small clay hut and doing saintly practice in the Himalaya, he continued to learn with grandmaster Faiyaz Khan in the Guru-Shisya (Master-Disciple) system. Currently Heiko has joined his traditional skills with his electronic production and composition, and has produced several albums. Heiko has worked with artists like Krishna Das, Shankar Mahadevan, PanditHariprasadChaurasia, MeetaPandit, Saskia Laroo, Melissa Etheridge, the Rotterdam Philharmonic and Ravichandra Kulur. Next to his concerts, Heiko gives master classes all over the world at universities & conservatories, and teaches at the SKVR Rotterdam, and at the Gandhi Centre in Den Haag.
