song of praise O praise ye the Lord! Laudate Dominum the collect for thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. The presider prays the collect and the people respond Amen. The Word of God The people are seated for the reading and psalm. the lesson 1 Timothy 2:1 7 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself a ransom for all this was attested at the right time. For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. psalm 126 The choir sings the antiphon, then all repeat. chant: Stanford The choir sings the verses. All sing the antiphon. When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, then were we like those who dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy. Then they said among the nations, The Lord has done great things for them. The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad indeed. Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses of the Negev. Those who sowed with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying the seed, will come again with joy, shouldering their sheaves.

The people stand to sing and remain standing for the Gospel. hymn at the sequence - 397 Now thank we all our God Nun danket alle Gott the gospel Matthew 6:25 33 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus said, Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, What will we eat? or What will we drink? or What will we wear? For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. the sermon The people stand. a litany of thanksgiving Following each petition, With grateful hearts, We thank you, Lord. The Rev. Wendy Tobias As we give thanks for all the blessings which come from your hand, O God, we remember your people who daily struggle to attain basic needs. We pray for those who live as people without land, shelter, food, or companionship and for those who live and serve in areas torn by war and conflict. Give us the will and the courage to seek your justice and mercy, that all people may share in your abundance. Above all, we give you thanks for your Son Jesus Christ, for the truth of his Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know Christ and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things. Amen. O loving and generous God, you open your hand and satisfy the needs of every living creature: multiply the harvests of the world and let your Spirit renew the face of the earth, so that our land may give her increase, and your people everywhere may give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. the peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. The people greet one another with a sign of God s peace and then are seated.

the offertory The people remain seated while an offering is collected to support the Cathedral s work of sharing God s love with the world. anthem at the offertory Jubilate Deo in B flat William Walton (1902 1983) O be joyful in the Lord all ye lands; serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song. Be ye sure that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us and not we ourselves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him and speak good of his Name. For the Lord is gracious; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth from generation to generation. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. The people stand for the presentation acclamation and remain standing until the invitation. presentation acclamation We gather at your table, Lord The Eighth Tune The Holy Communion the great thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is right to give you thanks and praise, O Lord, our God, sustainer of the universe, you are worthy of glory and praise. At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home; by your will they were created and have their being. From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill; you made us the stewards of creation. But we turn against you, and betray your trust; and we turn against one another. Again and again you call us to return. Through the prophets and sages you reveal your righteous law. In the fullness of time you sent your Son, born of a woman, to be our Savior. He was wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities. By his death he opened to us the way of freedom and peace. Therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn:

sanctus and benedictus Holy, holy, holy Land of Rest Blessed are you, Lord our God, for sending us Jesus, the Christ, who on the night he was handed over to suffering and death, took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, gave it to his friends, and said, Take this, and eat it: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper, he took the cup of wine; he gave you thanks, and said, Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Gracious God, we recall the death of your Son Jesus Christ, we proclaim his resurrection and ascension, and we look with expectation for his coming as Lord of all the nations. We who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring you these gifts. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this offering of your Church, that we who eat and drink at this holy table may share the divine life of Christ our Lord. Pour out your Spirit upon the whole earth and make it your new creation. Gather your church together from the ends of the earth into your holy kingdom, where peace and justice are revealed, that we, with all your people, of every language, race, and nation, may share the banquet you have promised; through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, all honor and glory are yours, creator of all. Amen. the lord s prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. the breaking of the bread and the fraction anthem
