This last Sunday (March 26) was our last message in Hosea. I have greatly enjoyed the study in preparing for this, and very humbled by the many positive comments. Whenever I finish a sermon series, I have a little ritual that involves deleting those messages from the hard drive and putting them on a flash drive that holds nearly everything I ve written since about 1991 (which is why if anyone touches that flash drive incurs wrath). So here are just some thoughts I had while downloading the Hosea stuff: *While that flash drive holds over 25 years of work, this 2 gigabyte drive barely half full. Makes one kind of feel that sometimes what you do may not amount to all that much. Any lasting benefit is strictly due to the work of the Holy Spirit. *Over the 10.5 years I ve been at Travis, it looks like we ve done about 80 series, but some of those may have been on Wednesdays. So if I repeat myself *Many books have been preached through, some topical things, and I am on the second or third time through Revelation on Wednesdays. On the flip side, I still haven t hit Obadiah. And I ve never met a preacher who has admitted to doing it, at least not on a Sunday morning. *I also have a file drawer in my office here of my pre-computer days, everything hand written. It s interesting to pull out those notes and try to remember what was going on at the time. The reason these thoughts are hitting me I think is because for me it s a measuring stick of how far we ve come together. And also how much patience some of you have. May God bless us as we continue serving Him together. Travis Baptist Messenger March 29, 2017 Volume 54, Issue 13
Hosea: Relentless Love All He s Ever Wanted Hosea 14:1-4 1. Your Self to Return 14:1 2. Your Mouth to Confess 14:2 3. Your Heart to Trust 14:3 4. Your Spirit to Receive 14:4 Jeremiah 23:9, Psalm 34:18, Psalm 177:3, Isa 66:2, Isa 57:15 My heart within me is broken because of the prophets; All my bones shake. I am like a drunken man, And like a man whom wine has overcome, Because of the LORD, And because of His holy words. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. Thus says the LORD, "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word. For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. North American Missions Offering Our Goal: $2,000 Received: $1,365 Disciples Who Make Disciples, Who Make Disciples, Who Corpus Christi, specifically your neighborhood, needs to hear the Truth, that the Christ came to save us from our sin. You may very likely be the only one who can share Truth in your neighborhood/community. The government, TV, news media and school systems are selling lies. You hold the Truth. Many Christians want to share the Truth and power of God s Word with people around them, but something holds them back. For most Christians it s these three reasons: Why? Whom? How? In Discipleship Training we turn these three barriers, Why, Whom and How, into valuable weapons to share the Truth with people. This training is very effective making us to become fishers of men (Mark 1:17b). Disciple makers in India and China have seen thousands of small churches born from this training. Disciple makers from our church have shared with over 130 people over the last 12 months, been blessed to see 8 saved, started 2 Bible studies, with 2 new study groups at work and had 11 guests come to church. If you attend Discipleship Training you will learn: (1) how to share Christ, (2) to become intentional in sharing the Gospel, (3) to disciple new believers. A new Discipleship Training cycle, lasting eight weeks during Sunday School, will start in April. FMI: Dwayne or Adele
