This Sunday we are reminded again by God through Isaiah that he never forgets anyone. He especially never forgets especially us whom he invited to be holy and perfect like him. Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you (Is. 49:15). God does not forget us, we are more important than (Mt. 6: 26b) the rest of the creatures; we are the one who forget him by committing sins against his divine love and will. Page 6 Our Lady of the Rosary Church Background of the Liturgy Eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time In the past few weeks, we have been instructed to live the very life of God. In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ called us to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect. He told us not to act like pagans, or even like naturally good people of this earth. We are to remember that we are temples of the Holy Spirit and called to live like it. We are to forgive each other as Christ forgives us. If we consider our high calling, we might very well be frightened and anxious. We know our failings and weaknesses. It is not always apparent that we are living the divine life to which God calls us. We might worry about how we can live this life. Today's Mass tells us not to worry: The Lord will always be with us. We have but to call on him. The short first reading from Isaiah expresses our worry. Has God forgotten us? The Lord says that even if a mother could forget her children, he would never forget us. If so, why should we worry? The Responsorial Psalm echoes the confidence we should have in God's never-ending concern and love for us: "Rest in God alone, my soul." I would suppose that all of us at some time or other are afflicted with worry. We need to put our trust completely in the Lord. Then we can calmly sing or say, "Rest in God alone, my soul." The second reading is a short apologia of St. Paul. Some of the Corinthians (insecure as they were) identified themselves with Apollos (apparently a great preacher) or with Ceph.as (Peter). Paul says it really doesn't matter to him what the Corinthians think of him. He realizes and claims that he is "servant of Christ and steward of the mysteries of God." The original word for "servant" is "hyperetes." This word does not mean "servant." Rather it refers to a legate with plenipotentiary authority. It is much more powerful than "servant." them. The person of faith trusts that God will bring him through all difficulties. If we want to, we can worry about most anything. But we should put our trust completely in the Lord. He loves all of us and would somehow see us through every difficulty. Do we worry about our sins? God loves us. Do we worry about not measuring up to our high calling? God assures us of his forgiveness and love. Do we worry about worldly things? Consider the lilies of the field The ultimate advice of the Sermon on the Mount is seek first the kingdom of God, and all other things will be provided to you. Seek God s reign over your life at all times. Even if you fail, rest assured that he will be with you and care for you. IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICE!!! As a reminder: there is additional parking on Sunday mornings at the south lot of Washington Elementary School at Date and Union Streets. BUT the gate is locked after the Noon Mass, no exceptions. We have had parishioners going to lunch after Mass and returning to find their car lock in the lot. This is not our lot. This is a courtesy to us from Washington Elementary School. The word for "steward" is the usual word "oikonomos." This word refers to one who is in charge of certain duties which have been delegated to him. Paul says that it doesn't matter to him what the Corinthians think, but they must realize that he is "hyperetes" and "oikonomos." The Gospel is an exhortation against worry. We should not be anxious about clothes or food or living space. God takes care of the grass and wild flowers; he will take care of us. Pagans seek the things of this world and worry when they are deprived of

Please, Come to Church Dressed Appropriately! To be modestly and tastefully dressed is a sign of respect for God, for our selves, and for others. It s a false assumption that God does not care how we dress. Jesus told us, Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, you do it to me. If our attire is indecently provocative (short shorts, strapless, backless, spaghetti strap dresses/tops, or displaying cleavage), displaying unwholesome graphics (skulls, advertisements, scantly clad people) or tattered, it becomes offensive to our brothers and sisters who are worshipping the Lord and therefore offensive to God s Majesty. Ask this question: Would you dress this way before God? You are! He sees everything and you are in His house.
