DÜSSELDORF 2019 31. Internationales Seminar für Interkulturelle Seelsorge und Beratung Konflikt, Gewaltfreiheit und interreligiöse Friedensarbeit: Impulse für interkulturelle und interreligiöse Seelsorge und Beratung 31st International Seminar on Intercultural Pastoral Care and Counselling Conflict, Nonviolence and Interfaith Peacebuilding: Impulses for intercultural and interreligious care and counselling Ort / Venue: Jugendherberge Düsseldorf, City-Hostel Düsseldorfer Strasse 1, 40545 Düsseldorf 1 6 September 2019 1

PARTNERS OF COOPERATION ISSUES AND PROCESSES OF THE SEMINAR Peace is in addition to justice and the preservation of creation a question of humanity's survival. In a time of multiple conflicts and violence in private, social and global relationships, it is a challenge for all human beings to investigate the causes of conflicts, to recognize violence and to promote peace. Especially religions are called upon to stand up against evil, injustice and violence and to become active in peacebuilding. Conflicts understood as opposing interests and goals increase have been there in human history. But in a differentiating world they are more and more growing and lead to uncertainty, not infrequently also to strife, which is experienced as an existential threat and sometimes accompanied by strong emotions such as fear, anger and hatred. Such feelings arise when one's own needs are not recognized, when injustice happens and when powerlessness spreads. In order to be able to handle conflicts in a constructive way, it is necessary to reflect on how oneself is entangled in tensions, how to balance different interests and needs, and how to transform emotions for profound changes of relationships, interests and modes of communication. Ultimately, it is work for mutual recognition, respect and appreciation. There are a variety of methods to solve conflicts and violent confrontations. In this Seminar we want to get to know and practice the methodology of Systemic Conflict Transformation - a holistic approach in conflict management. This method asks about the emergence of conflicts, analyzes their dynamics and aims to transform conflict feelings into solution feelings, so that mutual recognition and appreciation can grow. In the Seminar, we want to examine in which areas of care and counselling in different cultural and religious contexts the approach of Systemic Conflict Transformation can become helpful. The setup of the workshops will be the reflection and discussion of conflict cases from different areas (families - societies - global conflicts). We want to test the method of the Systemic Conflict Transformation and to be trained in it. A detailed introduction to this method will be given in a presentation. In order to promote interfaith peace building, peace ethics are being developed in various religions: How can religions and world views contribute to peace with their spiritual sources? Where do they contribute to violence? How can spiritual resources for pastoral care and counseling become fruitful? The answers to these questions should create concrete ideas to be with people and to help them in their existential search. The seminar aims to offer a space for open discourses, non-violent communication and fruitful exploration, and to provide a "spirituality of appreciation" that is useful for pastoral and counselling in a wide variety of fields and contexts. 2

WORKING METHODS OF SIPCC The working methods of the Seminar are in line with the identity of SIPCC as a network, which integrates practice, education and research in intercultural and interreligious care and counselling and which enhance each other. Practitioners, educators and teachers / researchers in academic fields are invited to interact and to learn together. Spiritual elements and ethical issues indicate that dealing with people needs a holistic approach and has to reflect what is the good for humans. Worship - prayers - devotion give the Seminar a spiritual frame. The participants will experience both, common expressions of faith and also differences between faith communities. They give the chance to experience various interreligious spiritualities. Interreligious Forum: The forums introduce the theme of the day. They form an open space (similar to a "marketplace") for exchange of experiences, opinions and ideas using a narrative biographical approach. The core is telling about oneself. Some group-members from different faith traditions and worldviews introduce their personal experiences and opinions concerning the day's topic in the form of an interview. That will stimulate the plenary to talk about their own experiences, to express opinions and to get into contact with each other. The main focus will be to reflect on own peace-work. Lectures, roundtable talks and presentations give impetus to the respective topics of the day in the plenum and inspire discussions. Reflexions from different perspectives of the presentation want to enhance the discussion. Workshops Four single workshops will be held on three afternoons. Care givers will present cases of conflicts from different contexts and areas. These cases will be discussed and reflected with the method of Systemic Conflict Transformation. Moderators who are trained in this method will facilitate the group. Reflection Groups The reflection groups are the place of looking at the respective day with the following questions and discussing them: What was new, meaningful and important for me today concerning my own identity of faith? What did I learn about other religions? Were the contributions today helpful for my own work? Where is cooperation with other faith traditions in care and counselling possible? All group members are invited to participate in the discussion. The moderators will take care to ensure that all participants have enough space for their contributions. As the groups work process-oriented, it is essential that the participants stay in the same group. Exkursionen to Conflict Hotspots in Düsseldorf General Assembly of SIPCC Poster-Präsentationen 3
