Slava Isusu Khrysu! Glory be to Jesus Christ! On this Father's Day, as a parish father, I readily and happily extend my heartfelt and warmest greetings to all the Fathers (and of course, grandfathers too) and pray that God the Father blesses each and everyone of you! Do you remember a popular columnist of long ago, Erma Bombeck, who wrote many fascinating articles on multifarious topics? This is one of her goldies When God Made a Father - Erma Bombeck When the good Lord was creating Fathers, He started off with a tall frame. And a female angel nearby said, What kind of Father is that? If you're going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put Father up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping. God smiled and said, Yes, but if I make him child-size, whom would children have to look up to? And when God made a Father's hands, they were large and sinewy. The angel shook her head and said, Large hands can't manage diaper pins, small buttons, rubber bands on ponytails, or remove splinters caused by baseball bats. And God smiling said, I know, but they're large enough to hold everything a small boy empties from his pockets, yet small enough to cup a child's face in. Then God molded long, slim legs and broad shoulders. Do you realize you just made a Father without a lap? the angel said. God said, A Mother needs a lap. A Father needs strong shoulders pull a sled,to balance a boy on a bike, or to hold a sleepy head on the way home from the circus. God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had ever seen when the angel could contain herself no longer. That's not fair! Do you honestly think those large boots are going to dig out of bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small birthday party without crushing at least three of the guests? God smiled and said, They'll work. You'll see! They'll support a small child who wants to ride a horse or scare off mice at the summer cabin, or display shoes that will be a challenge to fill. God worked throughout the night, giving the Father few words, but a firm authoritative voice; eyes that saw everything, but remained calm and tolerant. Finally, almost as an afterthought, he added tears. The He turned to the angel and said, Now, are you satisfied that he can love as much as a Mother? And the angel spoke no more! INNER-CITY MINISTRY COORDINATOR POSITION Seeking an individual interested in a leadership position for The Welcome Home A Mission of St. Alphonsus an inner city ministry in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Founded by the Ukrainian Redemptorists over 20 years ago, the Welcome Home is a faith based community that responds to the material, emotional and spiritual needs of people on the periphery. The Welcome Home Coordinator is a full-time position that is responsible for ensuring all aspects of the ministry are in place including building relationships with those in need, volunteer co-ordination, programming, communications and promotions. The Welcome Home serves the neighborhood with the help of a live-in community, the Coordinator works with and participates in the life of the live-in community especially through community prayer and planning the work of the ministry. Lottery License #RR16-0270 JAROSLAW CHURCH BELL The oldest Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary, was built in 1903 just 9 miles west of Yorkton and served our Ukrainian Catholic pioneers for generations. Sadly, it had to be demolished in 2010 because of crumbling conditions. Through the efforts of Max Protz, Peter Protz, Carl Pacholka and Fr. Bohdan, the 1923 historic valuable bell was removed. A platform funded by Ann Musey, assembled by Peter Moroz and Robert Paskaruk and erected by Fedorowich Construction now provides a wonderful resting place for this bell by our grotto.
