BANNER From Pastor Emily PAGE 2 Dear Traveling Companions, During Advent this year we will be looking at the travels of Christ. The first Sunday we will look at God s willingness to come to us and specifically to Israel from the eternal home. During the second week, we will travel to Nazareth and hear about Mary s story. The third week, we will be reminded by the children traveling with us that Christmas cannot be bought in Stores. On December 23 at 10:00 am we will receive the blessing of this year s cantata. On Christmas Eve we will have two services. The first family service will be at 4:30 pm and will be a Posada service. We will travel together from place to place seeking a place for Jesus to be born. If you are interested in helping with this service, either as an inn keeper or as a person helping with the party, please sign up in Van Amburg Hall. Finally, we will experience the beauty of Bethlehem at the 7:00 pm Candlelight service. December 15 we will again host the distribution of gifts for Christmas in Berthoud. Please feel free to come help distribute gifts that morning. Children s pageant practice will be that afternoon from 2-5pm. Keeping ourselves open during this season of waiting will be helpful as we continue to seek God s leading in our lives and the life of our church. Thank you to all who have chosen to support the ministries of our church and the outreach of our congregation. We will be preparing for a new year, realizing that God has done great work in and through us this past year. Blessings as we grow in discipleship, nurturing, sharing and serving through God s love. Action Opportunities Berthoud Pack 6 Cub Scouts will be collecting holiday decorations for the Greyson Project up to December 12; the Greyson Project is a Berthoud based non-profit that delivers gift bags of holiday decorations for families in Children s Hospitals nationwide. They need donations of gift bags, tinsel, small Christmas trees, ornaments, window clings, or other decorations that a child in a hospital can use to decorate their room. If you have any questions, contact Reid Hollander at 785-550-1493 or Reidrhollander@gmail.com. PAGE 5 Our thoughts are moving to the holiday season. It is the time of thankfulness and giving. With this in mind, let s think about one of the charities that we have put on our Christmas list for many years, thanks to its champion Cheryl Kastle-Fenton. Warren Village exists so that low income single parent families can escape homelessness and move from poverty to self-sufficiency. Every year, they have a holiday shop which allows those who live at Warren Village to shop for their families, free of charge. Our role has been to provide items for this holiday shop. We will have a tree in the back of the church with a box in which to deposit the gifts that you provide. A wish list for both parents and children will be provided. Please add the Warren Village Holiday Shop to your Christmas shopping list. The deadline to drop off your items is Tuesday, December 4. For more information about Warren Village, visit: warrenvillage.org Thank you for your generous giving! Leanna Paint a Present fundraiser Saturday, December 8 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Release your inner artist and make a Christmas gift! Margaret Gillikin is back to instruct us in painting a beautiful evergreen canvas. Cost is $25 per person and includes all materials, snacks and drinks. If you are interested in participating in this fun event, please sign-up in the Van Amburg Hall. Inn Keepers and party organizers needed! The 4:30 p.m. service on Christmas Eve will be a Posada, in which we will travel from place to place to find a place baby Jesus to be born. Afterward, there will be a party in the fellowship hall to celebrate Jesus birth. If you are interested in being an Inn-Keeper or helping with the birthday party, please sign-up in Van Amburg Hall. Thank you! House of Neighborly Service wishes to thank our congregation for donating 86.65 pounds of food in November! It is much appreciated and needed, so please keep the donations coming to help those in need in our community.

December is upon us! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving as we now look forward to one of the most special times of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very merry Christmas. I hope you are all able to spend it with the people you love. The youth group will be taking orders for T-shirts as a fund raiser for the mission trip to Puerto Rico. The T-shirts feature the church logo on the front chest, the church website on the sleeve, and a tree with the church mission statement incorporated into the branches to signify growth within our faith, and our efforts to branch out in to the world and spread the word of God. For information on how you can become a proud owner of one of these T-shirts, contact me or any of the youth group members so that we can get your order put in as soon as possible! We have several youth group members participating in the Christmas Pageant this year. They, along with their younger cast mates, have worked very hard to put this production on. I hope you all enjoy it as much as they have enjoyed putting it together. I would also like to thank Sabrina Deaton for putting the show together and dedicating her time to making this year s pageant a reality. The youth group will also be having a Christmas party December 16th at 3:00 p.m. at the church. The kids have elected to have a white elephant gift exchange. I will be making snacks for the kids, but if anyone wants to donate items like hot chocolate, candy canes, or other Christmas treads, to please let me know. Any donations would be very much appreciated. I would also like to remind everyone that I am at the church on Wednesday nights for any youth that want to come by and get help on homework or just hang out. This is also a great opportunity for parents to come by and talk to me about any concerns they may have. We are also in need of donations to fill the fridge downstairs with food for the youth to enjoy during youth group. Please get a hold of me if you are interested in donating food or even providing lunch one day. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and, as always, thank you for your continued support! Ruben Carrillo Youth Coordinator
