PASTORAL REMARKS & WELCOME COMMUNITY PRAYER & FELLOWSHIP WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING Tithes, Offerings, and Benevolent Give in tithe and offering; then watch the windows of heaven open. (For your convenience, guest envelopes are in the back of each pew.) HYMN OF PREPARATION THE GOSPEL MESSAGE Reverend Dr. Verlin D. Williams INVITATION TO DISCIPLESHIP "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am Gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11: 28-30 (NKJV) OBSERVANCE OF THE LORD S SUPPER 3

OLD TESTAMENT READING 1 Kings 17:8-16 (NKJV) Elijah and the Widow 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9 Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you. 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink. 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand. 12 So she said, As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13 And Elijah said to her, Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth. 15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah. LEADER: This is the Word of God CONGREGATION: Thanks Be Unto God 4

NEW TESTAMENT READING Matthew 14:14-21 (NKJV) Feeding the Five Thousand 14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. 15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food. 16 But Jesus said to them, They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat. 17 And they said to Him, We have here only five loaves and two fish. 18 He said, Bring them here to Me. 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children. CHURCH COVENANT LEADER: CONG: LEADER: CONG: LEADER: CONG: LEADER: ALL: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the LORD Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on the profession of our faith we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully renew this covenant with one another as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every other organization of human origin. To contribute cheerfully and regularly as God has prospered us, toward the support of the ministry, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintance. To walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our service. We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort each other unto every good word and work; to guard each other s reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other s joys, bear one another s sorrows; and to cultivate Christian courtesy; To be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior to secure it without delay. When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God s word. 6

Thanksgiving Hymn Jehovah the Lord, our Savior and King, Glad praises to Thee we ever shall sing; We come to Thine altar, the place of retreat, Where we shall find peace at Thine own mercy seat. Thanksgiving we bring in our songs to Thee, For bounties of earth, for fruit of the tree, For glorious fountains of water so pure, For temples of worship all time to endure. Abundant the yield of ripe fruited grain, From forest and field, from valley and plain; The verdant green pastures, so useful to man, Are tokens of blessings in Thy wondrous plan. O Jesus our Lord, Thou ruler of all, Thou art ever true, whatever the call; Be Thou defender in all time of stress, And help us live daily in true thankfulness. Amen. 7

Every Christian should strive to learn how to be a cheerful giver. When we give what does it actually mean? It simply means we cheerfully give back to God our tithes and offerings.
