1742 2017 Saint Luke s United Church of Christ of Trappe February 2017 Newsletter Worship Schedule Office 610-489-4933 Office email - administrator@stlukestrappe.org Blended Service 9:30 AM 3rd Sunday of Mo. Healing Service 9:30 AM www.stlukestrappe.org Sunday school 3rd Sunday of the month. From the 275th Anniversary Committee Our ancestors laid the foundation, built of love, work and prayer; They trusted the Lord to guide them, for they knew He would always be there. With humble hearts we bow down now, we fold our hands in prayer; For St Luke s Church we thank Him, and for His loving care. A stanza from God s Guidance By Betty Murphy Time flies, as the saying goes, and it has been twenty five years since Betty Murphy wrote those words for our church s 250 th anniversary. To quote another time phrase, Time marches on and now, in 2017, St. Luke s is preparing for the 275 th anniversary: The committee has been formed and plans are now being made. Did you know that George Washington was only ten years old at the time our congregation was celebrating their first communion, in a barn, in 1742? Like George as a boy, those people in Trappe, then called Providence, had no idea what was in store for them. The area, the church and her congregation, all faced two hundred and seventy five years of challenges and changes that would lead to St. Luke s UCC Trappe being what it is today. Many times throughout those years, much like today, our congregation faced an uncertain future. Ministers, during the early years of the church, were few and far between. With each new minister called, the congregation continued in its faith, worship and service to God and the surrounding community. Since 1742, our church family has witnessed everything from birth, death, joy, sadness, and apathy to tears, smiles, hard work, and some prosperity and it has survived. Through prayer, praise and worship this congregation has continued for 275 years. As another stanza from Betty s poem says: In the spirit of our fathers the future lies ahead Enthusiasm fills us and by His hand we re led. Keep your ears and eyes open for more announcements from the 275 th Anniversary Committee: Onward and upward to 300!
