For here my heart is satisfied Within Your presence I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts Better is one day in Your house Better is one day in Your courts Than thousands elsewhere

Better is one day in Your courts Better is one day in Your house Better is one day in Your courts Than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask and I would seek To see Your beauty To find You in the place Your glory dwells

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP L: Everyone who loves is born of God. C: God is love! L: Whoever does not love does not know God. C: God is love! L: As God loved us, so let us love one another. C: God is love! All: Amen.

GREETING P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you.

PRAYER OF THE DAY P: God of love, C: You have shown us the true nature of compassion in your incarnation and sacrifice on our behalf. Instill in us a desire so deep that we cannot resist it: to live in your love and embody your grace, for the sake of your own son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

God is love

READING 1 JOHN 4:7-21 7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. 15 God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God. 16 So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. 19 We love because he first loved us.

20 Those who say, I love God, and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. 21 The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also. L: THE WORD OF THE LORD. C: THANKS BE TO GOD.

Sermon Rev. Jim Knudson

God is love

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee ELW No. 836 Joyful, joyful we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love! Hearts unfold like flow'rs before thee, praising thee, their sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the gloom of doubt away. Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heav'n reflect thy rays, stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flow'ry meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird, and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest, wellspring of the joy of living, ocean-depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our brother, all who live in love are thine; teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine! ELW Hymn No. 836, Text: Henry van Dyke, 1852-1922, copyright-public domain

APOSTLE S CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH P: Lord in your mercy, C hear our prayer. SHARING THE PEACE P: The Peace of the Lord be with you all C: And also with you.

Hold Us Together It don t have a job It don t pay your bills Won t buy you a home In Beverly Hills

Won t fix your life In five easy steps Ain t the law of the land Or the government But it s all you need:

And love will hold us together, Make us a shelter to weather the storm.

And I ll be my brother s keeper, So the whole world will know That We re not alone.

It s waiting for you, Knocking at your door, In the moment of truth, When your heart hits the floor And you re on your knees;

And love will hold us together, Make us a shelter to weather the storm.

And I ll be my brother s keeper, So the whole world will know That We re not alone.

This is the first day Of the rest of your life, This is the first day Of the rest of your life.

Cause even in the dark You can still see the light It s gonna be alright, It s gonna be alright

This is the first day Of the rest of your life, This is the first day Of the rest of your life.

Cause even in the dark You can still see the light It s gonna be alright, It s gonna be alright

And love will hold us together, Make us a shelter to weather the storm.

OFFERING PRAYER P: O Lord, C: You have showered us with the most extravagant gifts of love. And yet our joy is not complete until we have shared your riches with everyone whom we encounter. Use these gifts we offer here as living tokens of our gratitude, and our desire to wrap the world in your wide embrace, in Jesus name. Amen.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS L: We confess our sins before God and one another. Pause for silence and reflection. L: Loving God, C: Forgive us, for we have sinned. We pretend to know what love is, but neglect to show it to our sisters and brothers. We hide the truth from ourselves, but we cannot hide from you, O God, who sees and knows everything. Be merciful and gracious to us and bring us back into your favor. Amen.

L: If we say that we have fellowship with God while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as God is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. May you know this forgiveness and trust in the one who grants it. Amen.

Holy Communion is open to all who confess Jesus as Lord and believe that Jesus is present in the Bread and Wine. If you desire gluten-free wafers, let the pastor know at the time of distribution. Glasses of white grape juice are available in each tray for those who do not wish to receive wine. WORDS OF INSTITUTION

THE LORD S PRAYER OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME, THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD; AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US; AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOREVER AND EVER. AMEN.

INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Love has been perfected among us in the gift of Jesus Christ. We hear his words, observe his life, and receive his invitation to join him at this holy table. Bring us forth, most compassionate God, to be fed and strengthened as your witnesses to love in all the world.

We Believe In this time of desperation When all we know is doubt and fear There is only one foundation, We believe We believe

We believe in God the Father, We believe in Jesus Christ We believe in the Holy Spirit, And He s given us new life

We believe in the crucifixion, We believe that He conquered death We believe in the resurrection, And He s coming back again We believe

So- let our faith be more than anthems Greater than the songs we sing And in our weakness and temptations, We believe, we believe

We believe in God the Father, We believe in Jesus Christ We believe in the Holy Spirit, And He s given us new life

We believe in the crucifixion, We believe that He conquered death We believe in the resurrection, And He s coming back again

Let the lost be found, let the dead be raised In the here and now, let love invade Let the church live loud, our God will save We believe, we believe

And the gates of hell- will not prevail For the pow r of God- has torn the veil Now we know Your love- will never fail We believe, we believe

We believe in God the Father, We believe in Jesus Christ We believe in the Holy Spirit, And He s given us new life

We believe in the crucifixion, We believe that He conquered death We believe in the resurrection, And He s coming back-

He s coming back again He s coming back again We believe We believe CCLI Song # 6367165 Copyright Integrity Worship Music Integrity's Praise! Music Life Worship Travis Ryan Music

You Never Let Go Even though I walk Though the valley Of the shadow of death Your perfect love is casting out fear.

And even when I m caught In the middle Of the storms of this life I won t turn back, I know you are near.

And I will fear no evil, For my God is with me. And if my God is with me, Whom then shall I fear? Whom then shall I fear?

Oh no, You never let go, Through the calm And through the storm. Oh no, You never let go, Every high and every low

Oh no, You never let go, Lord, You never let go of me.

And I can see the light That is coming For the heart that holds on. A glorious light beyond all compare.

And there will be an end To these troubles, But until that day comes We ll live to know You here on the earth.

Yes I can see the light That is coming For the heart that holds on

And there will be an end To these troubles, But until that day comes

Still I will praise You, Still I will praise You

Yes I can see the light That is coming For the heart that holds on

And there will be an end To these troubles, But until that day comes

Still I will praise You, Still I will praise You

Oh no, You never let go, Through the calm And through the storm. Oh no, You never let go, Every high and every low
