SPECIAL SERVICES Sunday 30 September 12.00 noon Freshers Service followed by a sandwich lunch in the Ante-Chapel Thursday 1 November Sung Eucharist for All Saints Friday 2 November 12.30 pm & Commemoration of the Departed At lunchtime the Chapel will be open for private prayer and the lighting of candles to remember those who have died; a short service will follow in the evening at which names of those remembered will be read aloud. Friday 9 November 8.00 pm Sacred Space A short, informal Communion service open to everyone, with reflective music, readings and silence. Sunday 11 November Remembrance Sunday 10.45 am Act of Remembrance and Mattins Address to be given by Sir John Tusa Alumnus & former Managing Director of BBC World Service and the Barbican Arts Centre A Service of Music & Readings for Remembrance Sunday 25 November A Carol Service for Advent This service is ticketed. EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES All members of the College community are welcome at the following events A Good Read: Book for Michaelmas Term The Human Planet: How We Created the Anthropocene by Simon Lewis and Mark Maslin. The book can be collected from outside F2 Whewell s Court during weeks 1 & 2, and all are invited to join a conversation about its themes hosted by Hugh Hunt and Andrew Bowyer on Thursday 8 November 7.30 pm. Women s Bible Study Sundays 4.30 5.30 pm M6 Blue Boar Starting 7 October, join us for tea and cake as we explore the biblical passages behind some of the best-known hymns. Chapel Volunteers Soirée Sunday 7 October 8.00 10.00 pm Junior Parlour A get-together for anyone involved in helping to read or usher at Chapel services, and those who would like to do so. Pizza will be available and a selection of drinks. Coffee Tasting Monday 8 October 6.00 pm Join the Bould Brothers, Max and Alex, as they introduce us to the fine art of coffee making. John Donne Wednesday 10 October 9.00 pm Chapel An evening of short readings from John Donne s poems and sermons, together with English sacred music from his time; followed by a candlelit service of Compline at 9.45 pm. 3 Faiths in 3 Objects Wednesday 17 October 6.30 pm Wren Library See rare Muslim, Jewish and Christian artefacts and hear Trinity researchers explain their significance. Getaway for a Day: Imperial War Museum Saturday 3 November To mark the centenary of the end of WW1 we will be travelling to the Imperial War Museum in London to pay our respects to the fallen and explore the personal stories behind the conflict. Bonfire Night Monday 5 November 6.30 pm Allhusen Room Join us for hot dogs and hot chocolate before walking to Midsummer Common to see the fireworks. Faith Forum Friday 23 November 6.00 pm F2 Whewell s Court An opportunity for those with a faith, no faith, or questions about faith to meet and discuss our differences, but also what we have in common. Christmas Day Lunch Tuesday 25 December from 12.00 noon Join the Chaplains for lunch on Christmas Day. Places are limited, so please contact Kirsty well in advance if you would like to join in. Winter Getaway: Morocco 1 8 December Basing ourselves in Casablanca and then Marrakesh, we will visit world heritage sites as well as markets, museums and sites of religious significance. They are always delighted to hear from anyone who would like to read in services or to be ushers, regardless of their particular religious commitment. The Chaplains organise regular social activities for those active members of the Chapel community, such as Formal Halls. BAPTISM AND CONFIRMATION Members of College interested in preparing for Baptism or Confirmation at the University Confirmation Service in Easter Term are encouraged to speak with one of the Chaplains.
THIS TERM S CHARITABLE CAUSES Cara (Council for At-Risk Academics) Cara provides urgently-needed help to academics in immediate danger, those forced into exile, and many who choose to work on in their home countries despite serious risks. Cara also supports higher education institutions whose work is at risk or compromised. www.cara.ngo Médecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) Guided by medical ethics and the principles of impartiality, independence and neutrality, MSF provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. www.msf.org TRINITY ENGAGE Opportunities for student volunteering The Cambridge Churches Homeless Project operates from December to March in eight churches and one synagogue. They take turns to provide a friendly welcome, hot supper, and safe space to sleep for up to 15 homeless guests. Volunteers are needed! Contact Andrew for more information.
