The Fourth Sunday of Advent Prayer Service December 22, 2018 ---Distance Learning Style--- This is the fourth Advent prayer service and it follows the template of the other three we have celebrated in school. Take a few minutes to click through the slides, read the prayers, listen to the song, and reflect on God s peace. When you finish, you will see a slide that has two questions. Email Mrs. Hayslip the answer to both questions and you will receive credit for this distance learning activity. You might also earn a prize when we return to school in January. Opening Prayer Holy Spirit, you are called the Peacemaker. During Advent, help us to find peace and to bring peace to others. Our lives quickly fill up with worldly concerns of presents and parties when we need to focus on the real celebration of the season: the arrival of the baby Jesus. Holy Spirit, fill our hearts with peace. Let us know the presence of God in our lives and appreciate the peaceful moments we have. Amen.
The Fourth Sunday of Advent Today we celebrate the fourth and final Sunday of our Advent season. The final candle on our Advent wreath is named the Angel Candle because the heavens were filled with angels who sang, Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.
Following the angels tidings, our theme this week is peace. As we offer up our petitions, we focus on the peace that comes from a strong relationship with God. Please respond: Lord, help us spread your peace.
Petitions: Lord, help us spread your peace! We pray for peaceful hearts to welcome the child Jesus at Christmas. We pray to the Lord. We pray for the many war torn nations of the world whose people long for peace. We pray to the Lord. We pray for Pope Francis, Archbishop Kurtz, and all church leaders that they may know God s peace as they minister to His flock. We pray to the Lord. We pray for those who are struggling with relationships, friendships, or their own personal interactions with Christ that they may find peaceful resolutions. We pray to the Lord. We pray for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the peaceful moments in our lives so that we may hear God s word. We pray to the Lord.
Scripture Reading Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Closing Prayer Heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the greatest gift: your Son, Jesus Christ. In times of trouble remind us to turn to Him for peace. Let us always seek His guidance so that we may resolve all issues respectfully. Thank you for the many times we have felt hope, love, joy, and peace during this Advent season. Amen.
