REVEREND KAREN PERKINS is serving as the sabbatical interim pastor this summer. She is originally from the Bay Area and attended seminary in Berkeley. She served for 7.5 years in Hawaii, at a joint call between a Lutheran and an Episcopalian congregation. She also works with the San Francisco Night Ministry. Her current home is in Auburn, but she will be living in San Jose while she is with us for the summer. She is very excited about her time with Advent. Pastor Anita has begun a three-month sabbatical. Sabbatical time is for rest, renewal and learning, and she looks forward to all three, and to returning to worship with Advent on Sunday, August 28. NAME BADGES FOR SUMMER Starting May 29 and going until September 4, the 9:30 am Sunday worship services will bring together the 8 am and the 10:45 am folks, summer visitors and travelers, and Advent's sabbatical interim pastor - Pastor Karen Perkins. So, to facilitate a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, please wear your name badge each Sunday. SUMMER SCHEDULE: one service 9:30 am Memorial Day through Labor Day. DID YOU KNOW? From your Stewardship Committee HOST FAMILIES for the Big, Big Band from Sweden members and their families. The Big, Big Band from Sweden came to Morgan Hill last week. This outstanding 47-person band appeared at 7:00PM, June 17, 2016 at Advent Lutheran Church. Advent and its congregation welcomed the entire community to this unique concert. This group s big band sound appealed to young and old. The Big, Big Band from Sweden includes young people in their late teens right through to members who have played in the band for more than 40 years! Band members come from several small villages in the Southern province of Sweden called Skåne the Swedish province closest to Denmark. The band includes teachers, doctors, engineers, farmers, professors, high school and university students and homemakers. Host families were asked to make contact with their guests after the concert to take them to their homes for the evening. In the morning they were to provide breakfast and send a bag lunch for their trip to San Francisco. Some host families had as many as four guests however most had just one or two. All host family members are asked to take the communion elements to the altar for recognition of your stewardship to Advent and to receive a blessing from Pastor Karen. Your Gifts and Participation Make a Difference! THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful. John Wooden - Nicknamed the "Wizard of Westwood," as head coach at UCLA he won ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period, including a record seven in a row. 14

SCORE SUNDAY ON JULY 10TH SCORE Sunday is coming up! As a result of the Visioning Retreats that Advent conducted in the winter and spring, we have formed SCORE groups to help see Advent's newly identified Core Values and 3-5 year strategic focus come to light. We're kicking it off with a meeting on Sunday, July 10th following service. Childcare will be provided so couples can attend meetings together or go to separate groups if they'd like. We need as much help as possible, please sign up for a group. The group leaders are: Sustaining Strengths: Strengths: Grant Leff Capabilities: Bill Mains Outreach: Valerie Sacks Resources: Janel Jannusch Engagement: Mark Gill The sign-up sheets are in the greeting area and will remain there until the meetings take place. Teens are encouraged to join a group as well. Our goal is to keep it brief and take action quickly. FOURTH OF JULY PARADE The Interfaith Community of South County will be participating in the Morgan Hill 4th of July Parade! Advent Lutheran is invited to join in. Participants are asked to wear red, white, and blue (or some combination thereof). There will be classic cars, a banner, balloons, and music. Some clergy will be there, too! It's a great opportunity to meet our neighbors! Questions? Contact Ed Merrell, Pam Kenyon, or Valerie Sacks. THANK YOU We would like to thank Bob Wagner of Blossom Valley Foods for donating the BBQ products to all of the fathers who attended our service last Sunday. 15
